Cannabis and Kidneys

Very new to cannabis as a whole, so I'm wondering if anyone has any personal experience of consuming cannabis products while only having one kidney/ having kidney issues, etc? I'd rather not find out the hard way I shouldn't have played around.

I had a buddy that had a kidney transplant right before covid and his doc said no cannabis, smoking or otherwise.Something about fungal infection risk. I'm not a doctor and I have no idea about the specifics just passing along an anecdotal incident.

You need to speak to your nephrologist. No one else can give you advice specific to your healthcare situation. Best of luck.

i know weed will lower your test results for thyroid gland, i got put on medication that fucked me up for 2 months until i stooped taking it

Maybe incase it contains CBD

CBD may raise tacrolimus levels according to that

I am having one ripped out in two days.
So I am hoping there is no issue giving up smoking is not in the cards for me......

Tacrolimus levels are only of concern in transplant patients. It's an immunosuppressant to prevent rejection of an implanted organ. So raising your Prograf (tacrolimus) levels could possibly be of benefit if it were reliable and predictable but more studies will need to be done.

This is why a nephrologist is so important in this convo. I come from
a surgical specialty that wasn't anywhere close to the kidneys LOL (they are really hard to get too)

Why is an important reason that could change the advice. You should speak to your nephrologist too, sorry.

I've been smoking on tacro for 15 years and it doesn't seem to raise it. The range it can be is a decent size though so I wouldn't notice a point or two

I'm on tacrolimus and everolimus from a heart transplant. I also have stage 3 renal failure from polyclinic kidney disease. No I'll effects on the transplant or tacro levels. My nephrologest and renal transplant team told both me and my brother to consume as much cannabis as we want. They preferred we did edibles because of the smoking.. but you know.

I've spoken to many nephrologests, cardiologists, medical professors, even the head of the nephrology department at northshore University hospital in manhasset. Smoking is bad, weed is perfectly fine is the consensus. Only 1 told me not to, and that was because he enrolled me into some clinical testing thing after transplant and they couldn't use my numbers if I smoked weed. I told them if they wanted to use my numbers, then don't test me. And if my numbers are so good that it's such a big deal that you use them, maybe you should be testing how cannabis effects post transplant care. I'll be patient 0, ready go

Where did your other one go? My uncle was born with only 1, covid got him. I see him in my dreams just sitting in the corner of his house with a look on his face like he still can't believe it's over so soon.

I put my back out doing a pile of work and it was not going back in place. After two weeks I went to hospital and cat scanned me and found growth on right kidney. So it came out on Wednesday.
My birds are glad I am home, I spoil them more than the guys doing the daily feeding.

Damn man! They took the whole kidney, or just the piece? My other uncle had that done with kidney cancer and the kidney grew back. But they only took the tumor and surrounding tissue. I feel better it settles my stomach for one with all the drugs pumped in me it going take a while before it is normal and I can eat at Vincent's Clam Bar and have the Fried Shrimp with Hot sauce.

At this point have had two and I feel better, just need to not do anything stupid to set me back.
