Canndo? let us hear your methods

alright ive picked up a little of what youve said in different posts,Canndo, and i can tell ur very knowledgable and not scared to try new methods. i am new to the mushroom growing world, and was wondering if u could post a detailed page with pics to help us aspiring mushroom growers, i picked up a little on using the grain in quart jars, and ur fruiting chamber, which im am very interested in. But i dnt fully understand how its all set up

I never used a fruiting chamber proper. I have a host of methods but I have not done any work with mushrooms for a while - hence no pictures of methods, just those from my collection of mushroom porn, instead I am working on marijuana micropropagation - if you are interested in that, check my grow journal at the bottom of the page. But being that I am flattered by your call out, what would you like to know?

i was curious about using the fog machine, rather than perlite. and what the advantages are of this. ill work the kinks all out eventually but as any first time grower, i want everything to go as good as possible the first time around.

lol i loved your microprop thread canndo i thought it was one of the most informative threads on here and really gets you thinking on what can be done

even just in a pure science aspect

The pearlite just doesn't seem very good to me. You can get a simple aquarium pump and pump air through a plenum chamber that you have put some sort of humidifying system through. then you can pipe that into your chamber, use a mister button that costs about 10 bucks, get them at reptile shops. You can get cool humidifying systems at pharamcies - they are a little pricey. You don't want them to deliver 100 percent humidity so the misters aren't the best way unless you can devise a way to mix regular air with humid air. The point of this whole excercise is not the humidity but the air exchanges - two to three at the least.

Thanks, we are going to crank this one up again shortly, the problem was raw material. Couldn't get the number of cuttings I needed to start and now that the weather is cooler I don't have to worry about cooking the things - this season I will show rooting (I managed to get it to work but I haven't been able to figure out how to photograph it), and I got the mixing table so I am going to make the artificial seeds as well - curously, I STILL have not managed to germinate seeds in vitro. I have arranged for all of the products and mixtures I use to be sold to those who want to copy my work.

Fruiting chamber. The method I prefer. In this pic you can see I have taken a plastic tub and drilled small holes in it for both ventilation and for electric wire access. I bought a small humidifier for $26 at Lowes and placed in inside along with a temp/humidity gauge. I placed a smaller tub, containing the substrate, in this case cow dung (hey its free and works as nature intended) inside the larger tub then place the top on. I open it twice a day for fresh air exchange and to check on things. There are other, better methods but this one works fine for a small grow.

It seems to work, but, the key to great mushroom growing is fresh air at the right time. If you put your humidifier in a different bin and put an aquarium pump in there as well, and then sent a hose from that unit to your fruiting chamber then you would have humidified fresh air running through your chamber all the time. (mind you, I am not telling you what to do, but using your post to tell others)
