Carbon filter in a trim room

I'm thinking about having a trim/vacuum purge system in a completely separate room than near my garden. I was wanting to run a recirculating carbon scrubber in the room and I was just wondering if the carbon will last a long time since it will only be being used once every few weeks?

From anything I have ever read and experienced myself, NO it will not, the reason I am saying this is because activated carbon charcoal becomes activated when you open up the seal in the box. Once it hits fresh O2 it begins working, so whether you have the fan running sucking air through or not it is still activated and working...

Incorrect.
Filters are useless after all the bonding sites have been filled due to adsorption, some airflow is needed. There would be some LIMITED degradation. You need more air movement for more adsorption.

Recently I installed a can filter that I purchased and opened more then one year ago. Does a great job for odour.

I would bet that your filter lasts much longer then one used for scrubbing regularly.

If it is sitting idle opened it will have a little degradation but not even close to the degradation of running an inline fan threw it. Wrap it in saran wrap & store in a low humidity area. That's the best you can do

the carbon filter will definitely last longer than if it was running all day everyday. let me put it this way. I have 12'' x 48'' phresh filter that was run 24 hours a day, and it lasted a good year and a half. I also had one running only when the lights were on (12 hours a day ) that almost lasted twice as long. Closer to two and a half years. There was some degredation as it didn't last exactly twice as long but it definitely extended the life of the filter.

It will last forever !!!!!! almost lol
