Carbon filter lifespan

Hi yall

I have a real cheapo carbon filter. From what I understand it will work fine and get rid of all smell but only be reliable for one grow.

When I set everything up in my tent, I put the carbon filter on from the get go.

Then I come to realise, I really don't need it now and won't for several weeks.

Am I going to find that it poops out on me halfway through flower? Should I take it down and wrap it in bin bags to preserve the charcoal until flower time?

Cheers

You can actually take your carbon filter to a powder coater and have them bake it in their oven and it will be like new again.

Thanks for the replies folks.

From what people say here, I don't have to worry - but all my friends who have grown warn me otherwise. I guess time will tell, I was just wondering really whether wrapping it in bin bags would preserve it.

Your cheapo filter will be fine for at least a year of normal cycle usage. (18/6 and 12/12). I pay 65 bucks for my filters and change them yearly..

Excellent thank you. I think I will use it for this one grow, then retire it to my living room, where I will have a low power fan running on it when it's vapey-smokey time so it circulates the air and makes it less smelly. By the time I've done this grow I will have saved up enough $$$ to upgrade the filter in my tent and buy a decent fan.

the budget filters work fine i have used the same filter for several years
i vent directly from room to room i can smell the filter is still working correctly
i removed the outer dust guard as it puts a little bit of resistance on the flow of air
i occasionally vacuum the filter to remove any dust that settles

I kick mine to the homie every 8-10 months just cause its like 60 bucks for a new one and he's a broke ass bitch!(has my 150 and an old tent as well)

on the bright side his old lady gives me handjobs while I help with his garden.

oh and your filter should last a lot longer then 1 grow, you will know when it stops working well.

I diddnt remove the prefilter that was the other peep
I know just couldn't be bothered to quote twice ;)

I can't have one poop out halfway through - it is a stealth grow and even half a day of stinkyness is enough round here. However, all the replies here are really useful in helping me decide when to swap. Thanks all!
