Carbon filter w/ speed controller Questions

Hey again RIU community. Just wanna say thanks to ya guys for literally answering every question I've had and every post has produced a reponse. Very much appreciated my friends

So here's the question! I'm really starting to narrow down on a materials list for my first grow. I've got advise from multiple folks on here claiming that getting a bigger carbon filter than necessary and using a speed controller to just tone it down to what I need is a great idea. I plan on having a 4x4 tent for a couple of months. I will be acquiring a 8x4 tent sometime around the beginning of the year and I want to make sure that I could buy a fan set up that I will be able to use first in the 4x4 tent then be able to effectively use it later in a 8x4 tent. If this is possible, would cfm inline fan should I shoot for and what size carbon filter? Thanks guys and smoke one for me

Go with 6x24 filter and a 400+cfm fan. If you go with the 8 inch combo, later you can exhaust both tents with one fan. Just a thought, I use a 6 inch fan to exhaust a 4 ft2 veg area and a 9 ft2 flower area.

Just upgraded my extraction to a 10inch from a 6inch in my 8 x 4 tent, I used to have a 4 x 4 tent with 1 x 600w light in it but upgraded to the bigger tent and another light, the 6inch extraction was not good enough for running 2 x 600w. could of maybe got away with a 8 inch setup but as you said its always better to go bigger than needed. 500mm carbon filter 10inch steal duct fan and ducting. £125

It does not need one when vegging a small grow. I've been in indoor grows where they have a smelly strain like Super Sour OG with over a 100 plants and even while vegging they smell.
