ok...so i decided i was going to be constructive and make my own carbon filter!!

its all easy enought but im having trouble with one little thing........

all the sheets of "active carbon" i find are way too small and are for fish tanks...and all the correct size filters are just called "carbon filter sheets" ....is there a difference or is it just due to the fact the person/shop hasnt put the word "active" in the description??

thanks

if nothing available fits your plans, then yours plans are flawed. look at making a filter using activated carbon granules as suggested rather than trying to find a sheet.

we are not talking about sheets. granules

http://www.hydrohobby.co.uk/product/activated_carbon_granules/

google tells me "Activated carbon, also called activated charcoal or activated coal is a form of carbon that has been processed to make it extremely porous and thus to have a very large surface area available for adsorption or chemical reactions."

all the carbon filter is is a bunch of this activated carbon sitting in the apth of the airflow. the air apsses over and through and bang, the smell is gone.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Activated_carbon#cite_note-0

If one is called activated and one is not, i would guess there is a difference. Without phoning the company in person, i can do nothing but guess.

Dudes by the time you have got all the stuff needed for the makeing of a carbon filter you may has well buy one they are not that expensive to buy plus it is a piece of equipment that is well worth investing in if you are gonna grow.I persanaly would not risk a homemade filter with a strain like blueberry or jackherer or ant cannabis plant for that during flowering some bought filters struggle to keep the smell at bay................tyke....................................................................................................................................

Your question is vague. You ask I carbon is different to activated carbon or whether its just a mislabelling issue. Yet you don't even say what product. Phone up the manufacturer, they will be able to answer it, not hedge a guess on minimum details.

Are you building your own ballast as well?
