There are a number of reasons to have the filter at the beginning of the line. Not sure of your setup, a lot of times when people don't have enough room inside they put it on the outside of the grow room. One of the main benefits from pulling the air is that you pull in any potential leaks. Currently you are pushing your odor towards the filter so any leaks instantly begin to force air out of them and odor escapes before going through the filter. I do not know if you use a vented light but it is more efficient to pull air across it also as you are not forcing hot air from the fan into the fixture. Really, lights should be contained on their own exhaust system. Intake-->Hood/Cooltube-->Out of the grow space (preferably outside). Then the grow space is vented Intake-->carbon filter-->Out. This keeps neg. pressure in the cabinet allowing for passive intake.
When pulling through a filter the granules are pulled together sealing leaks, when pushed through it separates the materials creating open areas of least resistance.
This has been known to reduce noise also as the fan doesn't have as much resistance to 'push' agianst.
I don't see a problem other than proper airflow with the way you have it now, just keep in mind that you must maintain the space iinnetween the two.
