I grow in my garage and I am legal but I am very concerned about odor. I am currently using a grow tent with a carbon filter inside the tent, however anytime I open the tent or if the fan turns off I would get odor leaking into the garage. The garage is airtight to the house but has minor air leakage to outside around the garage doors. I am thinking about using my filter in the tent still but have a separate free standing carbon scrubber in the garage to scrub any smelly air that got away from the tent. It would just be a large carbon filter and fan with no ducting attached, just to recirculate the air through the scrubber. I think this should work with a large enough scrubber and fan, especially since I will be most of the odor through the scrubber in my tent.
Does anyone else use a freestanding scrubber? Or any experience with this? I drew up a quick picture if I was not clear. thanks for any advice and +rep
If it works well It could also be used for trimming in the garage too.

I used one a few yrs back, and it helped out alot! I had a small canfan in the ceiling, and a larger canfan just pulling air from the room.

i think this would work better if it was being exhausted from the garage. as it is, i don't think it would make much difference

Saw this DIY setup a long time back, was going to try it for when I indulge :bigjoint:

It's just a fan on top of a 5 gal bucket, the bucket has layers of filter and activated carbon then exhausts via the holes in the sides. Add a dryer sheet or [FONT=verdana, arial, helvetica]potpourri if you like. Not my idea, I take no credit just a pic I had hanging around.

thanks for you help guys. I dont think I am going to do a DIY here because i like the quality and proven effectivness of can filter.
I think I am going to try to scrubb the garage air because i dont really have any other options. I cant exhaust out the garage because I live in a cold climate and if i exhaust air out it will suck cold air in from outside around my garage doors. The tent filter will deal with almost all the odor and the garage filter for any residual odor. I know it probably wont be 100% effective but it should be close........i hope

Its a 5x5 with a can 50 and a 1000w hps


For the garage i plan to use another of the same filters with fan to recirculate the garage air and scribb any residual odor.

I use a stand alone filter in my veg and flower room. That is all I have ever used and it works great. I just keep each one recycling the air in both rooms.

me too bro! i bought one off ebay from Foothill Filters, with my set up i cannot exhasut so this stand alone carbon filter works great! helps with smell alot

If it works well It could also be used for trimming in the garage too.

hey dude, i use one of these free standing carbon filters in the room that my tent is in, i cannot exhaust anywhere so this does a pretty damn good job at elminating odor, (i also use a thing of Ona on the outside of the room just to make sure any odors will be taken care of) i bought mine off ebay from Foothill Filters..http://cgi.ebay.com/8-X-14-ACTIVATED-CARBON-FILTER-ODOR-REMOVER-240-CFM-/350122437759?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item5184ec6c7f check it out, hope this helps
