I believe "unreachable" or some other term was used to describe that scenario. I got pulled over once with it on my bike, they made me remove the tools from a tiny 2 in high space and stuff an ounce in there.

I drive a 4dr pickup, no cap. I have a lock box on the back seat floor. Imo, it's the steps that count twords opening and obtaining the meds while driving in the truck that counts. 1 reach in back seat, 2 unlock box, 3 open box to obtain meds. This (again imo) is within the laws. It's illegal to store meds in the bed of a truck unless the bed had a locked cover or cap. My lock box, and everything in the cab is easily reached by myself. So I feel these steps count as a secure way to transport.

Yeah my boss drives around with methadone bottles in the cup holder and gets pulled over constantly for no seat belt. Cops never say a word about it.

I never saw where is says "locked" in the law. Just "enclosed in a case". However if you read the msp legal update on the matter it says locked.
thanks so much you guys! I always keep my meds in a locked box. There was actually an incident where the police tried to take my husbands lock box I will never forget it... my husband says sir I'm not trying to be a smart ass but you cannot open that lock box unless you yourself have your med card... the police officer didnt even know that! He didn't get in trouble and everything was sorted out hopefully things will get a little more organized.

It depends on both the letter and spirit of the law in your case... as some have said, some say unreachable, some say enclosed... some people might argue that a vacuum/heat sealed bag would work (one of my local shops uses those) no matter where it is. But I wouldn't want to try that either, mostly. Do the best you can and as long as you aren't smoking and driving, you'll probably be alright.

someone running as a candidate to be a state represenative should probably know the wording of the law and the applicability of it.
nowhere in MCL 750.474 does it say "locked".
nor does mcl 333.26424 specify that you are only protected if you keep your meds in your car trunk. therefor, 333.26427e comes into play and makes 750.474 conflicting with 333.26424 a/b and thus, not applicable.

Please re-read what I wrote. Did I quote the law? No, I said the safe money says locked.
On an individual traffic stop level, I recommend following the stricter interpretation, yours vs. the cops, to avoid an issue. Locking it in a container and putting it in the trunk clearly meets any requirement of 'inaccessible to the occupants of the vehicle'.

Yes it does. Read the law. New law two or three yours ago. If you don't have a card you may as well have heroin in your pocket, same schedule drug. Not a very smart statement. This is all about card carrying patients anyway.
