Casey Jones & Purple Kush harvest...enough?

I just harvested and dried 14 Casey Jones and 5 Purple Kush. They were grown in 4 gallon pots in soil, using Sugar Peak and Bud Swell (and its tea for veg). Other than molasses and occassional Earth Juice Catalyst, that's it. The lights are 3 600 watt hps.

Dried I got 1 1/2 oz. per plant of the CJ and just under 2 oz. per PK. Is this a reasonable amount to expect of these strains under these conditions? Thanks.

(This was my first time growing both of these and they are both incredible smokes, taste, smell and high, and this at the start of the cure!)

Congrats on the grow.
Your answer is yes and no. Being that they prob came from blue sky you should have had healthy clones to start with. that said most of the cj I have witnessed yield big. smallest 1.5 average 2.8 and almost 3.5 on some. They can become monsters.
as for the PK 2 is pretty good. and for a noob excellent.
Pk is more bushy and def. shorter. if you can average 2 to 2.5 with pk then be happy.
on the other hand your cj need work. 1800watts combined for 20plants seems excessive. my guess your environmental controls are prob a little out of whack. 1000watts hps and good bulb should be enough for 20plants. what's your average temp high and lows? whats your avg humidity? type of soil? etc.
It doesnt take much money to make it work just a little ingenuity.

Thanks for the information. I'll go back to the books on my lights. I usually veg pretty big since I'm limited to the number of plants (6 per perscription, there are three of us going in on this grow), between 12 and 18 inches before flowering. On this grow I was kicking myself that I PK wasn't vegged enough and the CJ too much. As for environment: 60 -85 degrees, three wall fans, dehumidifier keeping in under 50% after week two of flowering. Amazon Bloom (Earth Juice) soil with 1/3 Perlite added. I flushed once at 4 weeks and on the last watering (as per the Earth Juice/Sugar Peak's owner's suggestions). After one week of cure, both taste and smoke great already. Very smooth.

So why one strain does well the other not so much. Must be one needs more ferts or less than the other? In the past I think I've over fertilized, so maybe I'll try backing off, especially for the sativas. I've grown indoors for a few years, but, as you guessed, have been getting my clones the last two years at Blue Sky in Oaksterdam. Beautiful clones, but I usually get different strains each grow since its for our personal stashes and not for sale.

hey sorry to take so long to respond. Glad to help any if at all. Your def. right about the nutes! CJ seems to be less sensitive to the nutes and def doesnt need a long veg or sometimes as long in flower. on the other hand PK seems super sensitive to nutes. I have heard of great results w/ PK with just the basic big bloom type organics throughout the entire grow and must admit the results were outstanding. Some reason the PK seem not to need much and like to burn if applying too much nutes in a soil setup. It seems best to go at least half strength on the ferts. maybe even start at 1/8th. then 1/4th then 1/2. etc until your plants seem large enough to handle more. A healthy CJ is a light freak.lol. and will get a huge cola or two or three! from what It seems your PK will only get better. Opinion on strains from there. PK, if grown and cured correctly almost too strong to be functional. White widow, same story. CJ, if correct everybody wants to sing songs in a circle together lol. the rest, well, as far as yield and quality and conditions just so many variables you could spend years perfecting each one. I think you def know what ur doing so its just a matter of fine tuning. with 1000w hps and the right spectrum bulb there is no reason you cant make 18-20 plants especial PK happy. 20-24inches above. ur other controls sound great! not sure how much fresh air u have entering and leaving. I prefer 400cfm/1000watt of fresh incoming air and exhaust. just seems to keep everything happier than 150cfm or other lower recc. cfms. more than likely you will nail it on the next grow! Remember everybody has something that works for them. The above is what I know has worked well on the two strains for mentioned. But many other external factors could justify many setup variables.

Did you bring all of these up at the same time?? must have been tough with the size difference...I am growing both of these strains right now and the size difference is enormous. My Casey Jones are about 3 ft tall right now, while the PK are staying just over a foot high. Not too big of a deal outside, but I'm sure it was a bitch indoors!

I average around 3 oz per plant in hydro with high yeilders approaching 4 oz and some coming in around 1 oz (like LA confidential). My limitIng factor is usually space. Generally it works out to be around 1 oz per squre foot. If I grow less than 4 plants, I get more yeild per plant up to a max of about 4- 5 oz, but 4 plants seems to give me my best overall yeild.

I am running Head Seeds and Joe Schmoe's cut of Casey Jones, and indoors there is nothing that comes close to yielding as much of these monsters. You need to pinch the tops and lst them to get the most out of them. I am also running some Chemdawg G13 which at one time were my biggest yielders but I am getting almost an ounce per plant more with Joe Schmoes cut. You cannot beat the high which hits you hard and strong off the first hit. Overall best weed to date but you may want to be careful with the cuttings that are selling at cali dispensaries which most do not have the real deal. Good luck on your grows

btw, I am pulling in 4 1/2-5 ounces per 3 gal container with a 40 day veg and 60-65 day flower

I really appreciate all the information. I have finally given up (I hope) on indoor. The power bill was killing me. I have 5 plants in 45 gallons grow bags outdoors and so far all is well. I have one Casey Jones that is now about 6 feet tall, a monster as predicted. I also have a purple kush and again thanks for the info. I've dialed back on the nutes and she seems happy.
