Neem seed meal into the dirt will help repel them I believe. That shit gets into the plant and they dont want to eat it. At this point I would lean towards things like that, maybe insect fras, alphalfa or kelp to help boost their immune system.

dealing with the caterpillars and also not sure weather to spray at this point. just got the bt and a cheap sprayer, but I'm in denial because I think I'm spotting them all. but when I inspect the rotten spots - as you describe with the jewelers loupe, I spot the tiny fuckers. last yr. when I hung to dry, the tiny caterpillars rappelled on silk from my hanging buds. I have some beauties in the flushing stage right now, and even my (non interested) better half is telling me I should spray based on the "if you see one, there's probably hundreds" theory. I have been pulling off about 2 affected buds each day. the bt stuff is safe to spray up till a few days prior to harvest but still I'm not sure I want it on my smoke. ALTHOUGH, I am looking into washing my buds for the first time and not sure weather to go with a hydrogen peroxide bath, or a baking soda and lemon juice bath. lots of related info on youtube and this site. one of my first posts. I wish good luck to anybody growing outdoors this time of yr.

hey brisby, I sprayed the BT this morning when the girls were still a little wet from overnight rains. overcast and gray most of the day so it didn't get baked on. and just one tablespoon per gallon doesn't seem too bad. I'm still going to wash as much as I can for contaminants. I will reapply if necessary. and definitely spray earlier next yr. as preventive measure.

we get budworms bad where I'm at, first year was devastating for me, after any moisture hits the worm poop your plant will begin to mold and rot at the infected areas. spraying bt and spinosad does really well for the first 4 weeks of flower. looking into getting moth wasp and other beneficial predator insects next year to maybe not have to spray anything at all. sorry for your loss always next year RIP. I lost a few branches this year even knowing about them is still a battle they are ruthless.

I'm having caterpillars attacking too! Seems like they are all over the more mature of the two plants in my back yard. I want to stay 100% organic but also want something that works! I read that a mixture of: a lot of garlic plus mint and cinnamon oils, hot sauce, Castille soap, a little veg oil, all mixed with water (after being blended and then strain out solids) is a spray that u can use. Has anyone had a success story? These critters are deep in the buds. Even if you spray something, seems impossible to get to them when they're buried in the buds. This is my first grow, it has gone so good until now, help!!!
