caught growing...tips

I am going to be growing in a rental house that I live in with 5 of my friends. I want to start growing a few plants, but all of my roommates are worried that if I were to get caught they would all get in trouble. Hypothetically, if the cops were to find my pot plants (1-3 plants) what would my sentance most likely be? Would my other roommates get in trouble, if I said they did not know about it?

Is there any way you can really get caught in a house? Just a small list of things not to do would be nice. (ex. I do not know if I am legally allowed to purchase marijuana seeds online and sent to me house, does the FDA keep track of that stuff).

If you grow around 5 "friends" in a rental, your ass will be grass. It would be when not if. When you grow you can't tell anybody and that is rule number one. If something happens, your "friends" are going to roll on you so fast so they won't get in trouble. Here is some EXTREMELY STRONG advice. Forget it. Don't do it. It's not worth it. Not under these circumstances.

Cops would be least of your worries, man 5 friends = 5 mouths which could tell
anyone....

Also, growing without the permission of others in the house is not a good thing
It could lead to any number of bad shit coming your way man.

Your glory was short lived here at RIU, I have to agree with the rest of them, if I were fucked up on the best herb in the world right now, I would still not tell you to go ahead and grow with 5 roommates, even if they were completely ok with it, which they aren't.. also, laws are dependent on the state you live in, and their effectiveness of enforcing those laws can be generalized by county (which would take a locals knowledge) and sometimes (many times) more specifically to a city. (suburbia = bad) You will be crucified. About your friends, one of them will absolutely tell, whether on accident or not. Then, it will permit the rest of them to, you have got loose lips with 5 as your exponent. DOMINO DONKEY DICK

Dont do it man, if your that determend to do it you should wait tell spring and go out somwhere in the woods and plant it. dont do it now man!

haha, alright, thanks for the opinions. I am not looking to start a big operation or anything just 1 or maybe 2 plants. They are all smokers and would not care as long as they could not get busted too. I do agree with you though on not telling them. There is a wardrobe in our basement that is behind probably 20 sheets of loose dry wall. Thinking about growing in there, it is the basement and I go down there for laundry so no one would suspect anything. For the record, I am not really doing this behind their back, they agreed as long as they cannot get in trouble. If they cannot get in trouble if they do not know about it, then I think I am going to start and not tell any of them. And regardless of what everyone says, I have been best friends with all 5 of them since 4th grade and would never rat me out. If we were in a situation, I would just rat out myself, and take all the blame.

Bottom line: Does anyone know if they could get in trouble, if they take no part in the grow and have no knowledge of it? I live in Ohio, by the way. Thanks.

LOL!!!! Dude you're fine. I didn't know that they were all smokers first of all. Second, you live in fucking ohio, the most decriminalized state in the U.S. Cultivation of anything less than 3.5oz is a citable offense only, with a $100 fine (= a $100 TICKET, that's it) It constitutes a minor misdameanor (petty offense like a traffic violation and does not create a criminal record in the state of Ohio. And trust me, if you're just a novice grower, you need not worry, cuz I didn't grow anywhere close to that on my first attempt, and likely, neither will you. The good news is that, lets say you go over 100grams and venture into the 100g - 200g field (way to go).. you still are only looking at a 4th degree misdameanor with no more than 30 days. Basically, the only way you can commit a felony is if the weight is over roughly 7 oz. (just under a half pound) (7.14) to be exact and even then you can argue in court that the weight need be interpreted as the drugs dry weight, without stems or seeds (as is the fashion in which the drug was understood by lawmakers to be banned, in it's smokable, dry form (which can reduce the weight by up to more than 66%)) (An Ohio man is trying this very thing as we speak) Also.. you could make a contract saying that no one but you has the right to grant searches of the premises but you (this may need to be backed by an ownership clause), but essentially, the police ask your roommates for permission to search the house, once they do that and your roommates say yes (as they should be instructed to do so, by you), anything the police find will be legally inadmissable in court due to the fact that the friends were legally incapable of granting search authority to the police)) Just some tips Ohio is pretty chillax though, you won't have a problem.. Just know that growing good, healthy plants (bringing them from their vegetative cycle all the way to flowering), you learn what you need to know to successfully continue the process. And no matter the number, if they have no bud on them, it's no weight. = Ticket. Just don't get a public defender k? k. In addition, if you think about it.. you're only succeptable during the final phases of flowering when the weight becomes more than 100 to 200g (which will likely happen by your 2nd grow). The point is, during veg, that's around half the time the plant is alive, (for an early maturing strain), mary puts on a decent amount of her bud weight in the last 2 weeks of maturity, like pregnancy, so, you can cut down the time frame in which you are "breaking the law" past a ticket down to like a month out of the 3 months that you're growing the plant out. So I hope all this information helps you to be safe during that month that you're succeptable to police intervention.

Haha, thanks for the information. Very very helpful. I will just grow one plant for now and keep it under the radar. I feel like it is almost impossible to get caught with one plant. Especially all of the odor control I will likely have, carbon filters and probably some home remedies (pinsol and kitty litter). Just need to get a light for the flowering stage now

If you get caught everyone who lives there shares the responsibility especially if its in a common area ie a basemnet, laundry room , kitchen or such.I also wouldnt grow if 5 people already know about it.The trouble you would be in is pretty good.Figure.Manufacturing,manufacturing with intent to distribute,possesion, possesion of grow op paraphailia.Then if they found papers a bong sandwhich bags any scales.They would tried to get everyone in the house first then weed out the weak ones as witnesses for statements in exchange for lenancy.Thats how it works not to metion forfieiture of property and vehicles.And if by chanve anywhere close to a school even worst.

Only if who knows the police? as it wouldnt even matter if the room mates didnt know unless you can proove each room is individually rented from the landlord otherwise all occupants share the responsibility

In my opinion the thing to worry about is that 5 people know....and not that your good buddies would rat you out, but i would still consider that a risk regardless of how much i trusted them. I think filfthy fletch is on to something....your buddies would be in trouble...guilt by association....not much trouble though if platinum kasse is right about ohio's policies...if it were me, i wouldn't do it unless all my friends had an equal share in it or i was doing it on my own....

Thanks again for all the advise. I think I am going to grow it in my room in a spare closet that my bed is covering. That way no one in the house will know and I can take full responsibility in the chance that I get caught.

Also, I am a student at a local university. Would I be in trouble school wise if I got a marijuana misdemeanor? I don't think the school would even find out, but I might be wrong...

Question for Platinum: Do I have to own the house for the search thing? How would I get the ownership clause (and what is it, lol).

haha, no worries man, im a college student myself and i toke up in the parking lots but i have heard that if you are on scholarships or federal aid that can all go away due to a marijuana conviction but i think in ohio the misdemeanor counts and weighs the same as like a speeding ticket.....i think you'd be in the clear. don't get caught!
