[CFL] Fruit Hair! [Bagseed]

This is bagseed from a nameless sack in San Clemente, California.
There were 28 seeds at first, but I only have 11 left.
This is the story of Fruit Hair, my favorite phenotype so far.
She sprouted 4/13/11, was raised on a 24/0 light schedule for the first month-month and a half, and then put on a 21/3 for the rest of her veg.
She went into 12/12 on 6/10/11 so it will be 5 weeks flowering on the 15th.
She is currently in a 5g pot, 14" tall, and about 12" wide.
I just recieved a sample pack from "Hydroponix" so this will be her food supply as of a few days ago.
Vegged for 58 days before 12/12.
She was measured at 26" a few days ago, so I'm sure she's about 28" now.
She currently has 110w of CFL power, but she didn't always have this much.
1x 5000k 40w ~2600 lumens
1x 3000k 20w ~1600
1x 2700k 23w ~1600
1x 2700k 14w ~900
1x 2700k 15w ~900
So she has about 7600 lumens give or take.

Temperatures are about 70*F - 87*F with exceptions of course.
Buds are really starting to take off, she's hitting the home stretch!

Sorry this journal is so late, I forgot I had a camera until today.
+ I never thought I would love her so much.
She was grown all natural, with only 3 lower branches removed, and several lower bud sites removed.
Everything up in the canopy is untouched.

Thanks, It's fun going from a little clay pot I can have my friends hold and enjoy, to this 50lb+ monster that takes muscle to move around.
Last night I counted from the beginning of the top nug to the tip, 21 fan leaves. So 21 nodes/buds make up this little 4" wonder. Hope it gets beefier, she's got about 17 days left until I start flushing.
She's also got probly around 12 good size secondary tops, 4 medium secondaries, and like 2 or 3 small tops that I should have pruned off during veg.
Whatever.

Day 91/33: Fruit Hair!
Man she really looks better every day I go up there.
Well today I was playing with the flash, so there are some doubles, but each picture has been screened, so what I decided to put up is for a reason.
I'm very tired, and have to get up early so I'll try to make this quick;

There are 24 bud tops, and another main top bud.
The top bud is packing on height right now, each calyx comes out of the bud pre-powdered and ready to swell.
Humidity is bouncing between about 33%-47% totally fine with me.
Temps are usually about 78*F.

She loves the new food, not a sign of burn yet, I'm going to up the dose with every gallon I make, until I notice small burn.
Not much else to update, her top finally smells like the dank. But I have to stick my nose in the bud to get at it (The doc's favorite)

These don't have good quality, but they show how nice of a lime green color the buds/bud leaves are getting. The rest of the plant is a deep green/blue shade.

Yea she's a beautiful lady. Don't get them too tall.
I barely made it on this one, should have flowered it about a week sooner.

I'm at about 120% strength on the flower feed.
Climbin' steady until she starts to reject it.

Day 94/36 Fruit Hair!
Today lots of good things happened when I went to see her.
First of all, you know how Cannabis naturally increases from single blade leaves, up to thirteen blade leaves, and then back down to single during flowering?
Well for the last few days her top cola has been putting out single leaves, good fat indica ones too.
Shes definately a sativa/indica, and I'm leaning more towards indica. Probably like 60/40 or 70/30 Ind/Sat.
I managed to rearrange several things, and got the fan in a better place, and I moved one of the useless cfl lights, to illuminate the side of the top cola.
I'm hoping to get it nice and dense like this.

I gave her 1/2 gallon of flower food water just now.
In the morning I'll check for leaf tip burn, but she doesn't seem to have an end her hunger.. I've never burned her.

The top cola is getting taller and taller, I'd say about 7" now.
And the bottom 1/3 of it is getting nice & plump. I figure it's going to continue like that upwards until the end?
Seems like I'll get a christmas tree nug.

Her bud is starting to smell super good.

This is a 3.1mp camera, not at all something expensive. And it's old. This one just cought my eye;

Day 98/40 Fruit Hair!
Not much to report today, she's starting to really look good, almost 6 weeks now!
She has about 10 fully developed, single blade leaves on the top nug. Makes me nervous.. And the frost slowed down for some reason.
Keepin' fingers crossed for the best.

Day 101/43 Flowering; Fruit Hair!
These update shots were taken on 7/23/11.

I noticed the big cola is REALLY starting to fill in.
I think it will look effin' lovely when it's done.
I'm planning on taking this plant down in 2-4 harvests.
I will pluck each bud based on Trichomes, for a perfect harvest.

She has begun to really shed those lower leaves, I find about 3-4 a day completely shriveled.
I hope this is her eating them, and not some kind of deficiency.
But they are so low I'm really not worried.

I have started to aim 4/5 of my lights on the big cola, and a few lower buds which I plan on harvesting together.
This will open up the plant, and allow me to wrap lights around all the rest of the buds, until they are ready.

I'm guessing I'll get 2 or 3 seperate harvests.
This top cola grew very wierd, the top fan leaves are basically bald, single bladed vegetation leaves.
Almost no trichomes.
I don't know what's going on but lower buds are super frosty so I'm not worried too much.

Day 103/45 Flowering; Fruit Hair!
Well I underestimated the stretch, and left too many lower budsites on her.
Unfortunately, and believe me this really goes against my will, I HAD to remove a LOT of lower branches/leaves.

I took out branches/buds so low that they wouldn't even be a bowl at harvest, no sense growing dust.
And I took out Unhealthy leaves. But most of the undergrowth's leaves were coming from secondary branches, so they're gone.
I wish I had done this 1 1/2 - 2 months ago, but whatever.
In a few days I should notice the growth spurt..
And also from now until harvest is the HOME STRETCH where we get to watch her get fat, real fat.

Updates tonight folks, she's sleeping.
And I got her a new toy.

Ran out of batteries before I could get to her..
I took all branches and tied them to the main stem yesterday, so she looks very skinny and clustered.

Day 108/50 Flowering; Fruit Hair!
Well I went to see her, rotated her, watered her, only like 1/8 gallon dripped out the bottom..
Moved a bunch of stuff around, and got a really nice arrangement with my CFLs.
I have;
40w 5000k
20w 3000k
37w 2700k
All pointed at just the main cola. Each light is about an inch away from the bud.
I honestly burn the tips of my trim leaves so I can get the bulb closer to the bud. No big loss in my opinion.

I go out of town on Wednesday or Thursday, for 6 days.
It will be 8 weeks on the 5th.
I won't return until about 8 weeks & 4 or 5 days flowering.
We'll have to hope that top nug is still milky white when I get home.

In the meanwhile, I haven't really looked, but I feel like I got some good pictures.
I'll throw them up.

I never knew I could take shots like this. Some day I will invest in a good camera,
but for now I'm alright with this quality. I love these shots;

No those numbers were the total amount of wattage, at which color.
I have;
1x 13w 2700k - Pointed at the second canopy/core of the plant.
1x 40w 5000k - The top lighting.
1x 20w 3000k - Pointed at the lower 1/3 of the main cola.
1x 23w 2700k - Pointed at the middle of main cola.
1x 14w 2700k - Pointed at the middle of the main cola, other side.

So 5 bulbs, and she's at about 110w right now.
She was vegged under mainly a 40w light, but once she got big I started using more.
So she's slowly been upgraded from about 15w-110w throughout her life.

The shitty part, is I didn't understand how much all those branches slowed me down.
I should have trimmed lower growth in early veg, and I should have removed the lower 1/3 of branches..
But if I ever run her again (I still have a clone) then at least I'll know what she likes.

Day 118/60 Flowering; Fruit Hair!
I've been out of town for a week and all hell broke loose.
I had to pull the top light up a little to give her room to meet it instead of grow through it.
Turns out she foxtailed like a wierdo and stretched past it..

I did the dirty and cut off lower buds that weren't getting light.
At this point, I don't even need them anymore.
So I have like maybe two grams of popcorn nugs to smoke on while I patiently make the most out of her.
I cut off the foxtails that weren't going to plump up. So the top bud is looking shorter.
And all these leaves exploded out of her. It looks like she's re-vegging to be honest.. Which shouldn't happen.
Huge single blade fan leaves with little trichomes. The whole width of the bud doubled with all the new fan leaves sticking out to reach light.
I'm charging my batteries right now for a picture update @10.
I'm paniced, but I learned a handful of lessons of course for next time.
This is my first successful harvest, my first plant yielded like 1/8oz of popcorn nugs that didn't get you that high.

While I was gone I all but lost most of my vegging plants..
They have a chance, I think I noticed healthy growth on all of them, so even if they're stunted I should still have the genetics.
I lost the White Widow unfortunately.. I might be able to get it replaced, but the mother has been flowering for about two weeks now.
So I will get a monstercropped WW clone if I do.
Or I might clone from a clone that my buddy has. Either way I'm not going to be heartbroken if I can't get Nirvana's WW.

You guys can figure this out for yourself. This is such a fat photo update that I will not do subtitles.

Those baby branches I took off last week dried for a few days, and went into a plastic jar to cure.
Several days later I smoked my first sample.
I think it was last night, although I could be mistaken, I must say I'm pretty high.

I didn't weigh it or anything, so imagine a 2g nug, but insanely fluffy and fairy like instead of dense and crystally.
And it's a mass head high of course with little body effect. Last night none of the trichomes were milky yet. I don't know what it'll look like tonight, but even the big nugs aren't ready for a chop, so the early stuff has little THC. But I feel it right behind the eyes and in my thought process, just where I like it.

I might photo update if I feel like sharing something. She looks the same though.

You know, you guys CAN add some feedback now and again, considering she gets cut down in the next several days, now would be a good time to put up your thoughts..

Hey has it been cut down yet? Plant looks good man. Definitely an improve from a 1/8th oz of unsmokeable. Looks like you'll get good bud from it. If early, clear hair, bud got you high, then the bud from when the plant is more mature should be pretty damn good. There's so many leaves you can barely see the buds I hope the nugs filled out more.

No she's still alive..
I leave town tomorrow morning until about monday. By the time I get back I fully expect her to be dead or dying. Unless I give her enough water.
I don't even care right now, I just lost the most important thing in my life.. and weed is nowhere near the top of my list. Thanks for checking in.

The 1/8 wasn't unsmokable, but it was basically like the early stuff I just described, except with your body.
It didn't get me "high" but I feel a noticable buzz behind my eyes for a little while. Doesn't last hours like good bud, and I certainly don't have to stop smoking it to remain functional.

I learned more lessons this grow of course!
First of all it's leafy as fuck. I've broken my rules twice now and topped/trimmed leaves/branches on the top cola.

What happened was I was overfertilizing her, because I thought the only danger was toxicity and leaf reactions. Turns out she never "burned" her leaves, but instead decided to bearclaw. Giving her retarded curled leaves.

On top of this she was heat stressed by me pushing the CFL's so close to encourage density. The end result was the plant spacing out, with normal budsites on the top becoming skinny branches that shot up several inches.

I cut most of those branches out, and topped the rest of them. They're starting to fill in so they won't be useless, but I feel if I hadn't topped them they would have been.

Bottom line is;
Overfertilization can strike in ways unexpected.

Heat stress by pushing CFL's too close will result in the opposite of the goal, and produce airy fluffy nugs.

The buds will be alright.
