when you talk about growing with cfls, refer to the actual wattage, not the incandescent equivalent. smaller bulbs tend to have a slightly higher lumen per watt output, making them more efficient. Smaller bulbs also put off less heat, which means you can get them closer to the plants. IMO many small cfls (13-26w) is better than a couple large 55w cfls. Because cfl light looses intensity drastically as the distance from the bulb increases, it is a good idea to look into doing a scrog or some lst. You want all the bud sites to get good lighting, so you grow the plant horizontally and all bud sites can be placed equally close to the light. Hope this helps.

also i did some topping and my top branches are turning purple brown someone said it was just nutrients getting to the new growth is that true

btw there bright as hell blinding

Plant stems sometimes turn purple when they get cold. Some pics and basic info about your grow would allow me to give you a better answer about that though. Brown is never a good color to be on your plants.

CFLs look very bright to us, but MJ plants need a lot of light to grow. They normally grow on mountain slopes in full sun all day long. The sun is truly a blinding light, not the 13w cfl your using. As your plant grows it will be a good idea to increase the number of bulbs you have on it. You should need sun glasses to go in your grow area.
