CFL Grow PLZ READ!

Hey guys okay I have three new ones. Two of them are really new, and the third has got some leaves on it. I have a old one with flowers on it which i think it has be over fertilized but it has survived for a while and now is in flowering cycle i do have pictures to share also : ).


Okay right now the babies are outside in the sunlight. Just changed the soil to garden soil into one pot. The smaller but bigger one is in unbagged backyard dirt which is some clay maybe and sand. Got some 20-20-20 all purpose plant food for a while now i am just going to use regular well water. The temp stay between 70-90 in the daytime. Humidity stays up between 60-90% without water!! maybe something off the soil.....anyway


I am using 3 compact floro bulbs they are about 100 watts each maybe more i cant rember.

The bigger plant doesnt look like it is going to harvest me any buds and it could be a male im not to sure on it does have lots of flowers though. I had a second one but it died of what i do not know but it was same story as this one. Can i keep the leaves off the second bigger one and make hash with it? What do I do with the big one that i have left if it will defly not produce me any buds : (. Let me know please!! Also let me know the like cycle i thave absolutly no idea i have seen a few differnet settings.

The place i have them in has plastic on the bottom and carpet all the way around inside of a cabinet type deal i will have to get measurements excatly. Thinking about taking some cardboard and putting on some aluminum tape on it, and put it on the walls inside the cabinet make some better refecltive surfaces.

Well i am having trouble with pictures they are still to come promise.

for starters pics would be really nice! =) i kinda got lost in the middle of all of that info but if your temp is ranging 70-90 you dont want anything over 85 some people prefer low 70s or high 70s i say go room temp like mid to high 70s if you have to dip into 80s it should be okay. lighting wise cfl's are fine make sure that they are really low to the plant i run them as well and i keep them just over an inch away from the leaves they like it and youll get short lucious, full plants. as for cycle there is a few methods a cpl of the most common would have to be a a 12/12 from seed, or a 18hr day-6hr night cycle for veg then to a 12 12 for flower. i am currently using 18 6 working fine =) oh yea and dont forget air needs to be circulation at all times if in box area have one intake fan one exhaust fan keep air moving at all times tip(if you have a lil air blowing directly on plant strengthens stems which in long run means more weight which in the end means MORE SMOKE!!!) what nutes are you using if any? what soil are you using? and how far into growing are you and the plants? and last but not least, dimensions?? if no pics can you post dimensions of space? oh fyi the aluminum foil is a bad idea in my opinion some say if you wrinkle it enough it doesnt damage plant, however i dont think that it should be used at all!, why take the risk of damaging a plant which slows growth especially early on? you can use glossy white paint if wall isnt already painted white or you can actually purchase reflective material from local hardware store or if really strapped for cash get x mas wrapping paper back side (glossy lookin) and put it up it also reflects!!=)o and welcome to riu!! im new too! well happy growing peace and smoke one!

Okay as of 11:57 the Temp. Was 81 as you can see from the pictures. The humdity was 67 and it stays up there. Okay the cabinet is alright size. It has one little computer fan that i jury rigged blowing air in there. The Nuets i was useing was 20-20-20 all purpose plant food. The big plant with flowers on it is producing alot of pollen so i stoped and watering with regualar water. I was thinking about just putting a have spoon full in the bucket of water and see how it does. The soil for the big one is in mircle grow garden soil. The littler one is in back yard soil mixture of some sand and clay. Seems to me that there both doing okay. THe bigger one is probly in about the 10th week maybe of flowering. The littler one is 2 weeks into veg cycle. Its also not alumin foil its tape alumin tape goes on easier then foil and goes on flater without cresing and such i have used in it smaller boxes that i had built for when i had two big plants but one died so i am left with this one. the tape worked out good on the sides of the boxes i actually still have one made but the light has been taking out and put into the other place. I think i answered all your questions and i took pics : ) let me know wht yall think : P and good luck with your grow the big plant is what is left of my first grow got 2 females i belive and one female is left. I am now starting on a 2nd grow.

Okay as soon as i find lut what is going on with the big one the light cycle is going to 18 on 6 off and ima see how it does its on 12/12 now. Im useing the clay sand soil mixture. The one has got 2 sets of leaves on it and is about 1 inch tall.

I have 2 more that are babies and got 4 leaves each not big at all no pics of these. Im useing a type of garden soil i got from walmart like 1.42 for a 29lb bag which seems to be doing good. The babies are in the naturel light and they will be put into CFL grow soon as i get space.

bro if im correct which i think i am please dont bash if im not right, but you NEED to get the male away from others pull it or somethin unless you plan on using later to create new strains i believe its lettin polen off like mating with the females bro! they are going to hermi if thats all correct and you dont want to smoke that! unless your goin for strains or something complicated but yea def get that out!! lol

Okay i got the bigger one gone from the cabinet. I took the babies and the 1st plant put them on a 18/6 cycle : ). I got more pictures to and i changed around the set up some more and put a way bigger fan in their making the plant move some more : ). The cab. is 30 inch tall 2ft. 5in w and 2ft 7in l. Let me know how i am doing o and the soil is Earth Gro Garden soil.

its good to hear you got the male away from the females if thats what the babies are no way to tell right now! =( ide just pull the male unless you plan on keepin it for making new strains or trying to make a seed plant. whats the temp in that roo m?? 81 still? o and btw carpet retains heat you dont want that in there ide put some reflective in there or at least take that out. another thing you may want to do is get that light right above the plants(they are too far away) if you have two cfls one on ea plant about an inch or two away from the leaves your plants are "leggy" meaning that they are stretching for light bro so yea be sure to get them close to the light the closer they are to light they healthier they will gro meaning more bud in end. you also may want to buy a ph tester there a cpl bucks at your local hardware or garden center keep an eye on the ph!!(you want in between 6.5-7 ide go 6.7or =) another thing you may want to do is get a cpl more cfls if possible ide go two or three per plant! =) well im off to work =) ill post to this again later fo sho! =) smoke it up!!

Well i got the lights pretty much as close as i can maybe i can do something a lil bit later on i think they will be okay though. Yea i dont want the male for anything but if i can get something out the leaves or flowers would be really nice : P let me know thanks

So you're growing a full plant with three cfls? And are they 100w or the equvilant of 100w. Like a 23, or even 42w?

I think more lights might help your plants..I have like 8 or so 23w all around one plant. like 9,500 lumens(sp?) total

yea man the leaves and shit you can use to make butter and cookin shit! with the seeds i believe they are all goin to be males if im right! lol not 100% but yeah think you get males and bout the lights i mean like boxofstankey said the more light the better! =) and as close as you can get them is fine but yea def try and get more in there to help growth =) sweet i think after all the stuff mentioned above should be great to get started once there a lil older i would give them nutes and dont do everyday make sure you do like once a week or so =) and keep that temp down the ph good and keep an eye on it and watch it start to grow more and more lmao im high sorry!! lol umm yea but deff let me know if you have any more questions learning too but will help to the best of my knowledge lol peace and smoke another!!!

ive been up its 312 in the am here lmao reading and shit there is sooooo much to learn from this website! also started journal. but another thing that i have learned from another post is you can actually use the pollen hes giving off to strain later just put paper down around him and let him go!! then collect the pollen and freez it for later uses maybe to create new strain well till next time. blaaaaaaayyyyyze!!!!

The biggest plant right now plant one is doing really well i moved the lights closer and im doing my alumin tape idea and put that on peices of card board and seems to be doing okay but i think im going to remove them the temp is way high but the plants are great! I know i had an old head tell me he had plants outside that he couldnt wrap his arms around and thats outside in like 80-100 degree weather i think that the heat doesnt bother them as long as you keep the soil moist! let me know. Plant one has got some new grow on it 2-4 more leaves going on it : ) i will have more pictures sooon.

Okay what can i use as i fixture for more light but gives me some more room i need something that has a low profile maybe i will change the whole light set up with something new but needs to be cheap!!! maybe something i can find at a flea market? 10-20 bucks ??

another good thing to use is those balloons. u know the crome ones...
they are made from mylar..... i would use the hand test for the light .have ur finger or whatever right over the top where u want ur lights to be at and if its too hot then back the light off a drop till hardly no heat on hand... and yes the more light the better..
shouldnt water ur plant everyday either do finger test dig down half way if moist dont water if dry water....when starting with nute feeding start off with a quarter dose it recomends then as time goes bye slowly move up the dose...please make sure sence u moved that male plant u wipe everything down like wash everything,cuz with that male being so old he already spit its pollen out on everything.which is not good :0(
when u put a plant into flowering after so many weeks ull see a sack or a couple in different spots ,and after they come out it may take a couple days or so and 2 v shape hairs will come out that sack but if it dont and u start to see a bunch of sacks every where and a couple bunched up like a pack of bananas then thats a male and thats when u need to get rid of it asap...

the male that i had i took out so its not making no pollen. what would i do to get it ready to make something out of it? wh are some good light fixtures that are kinda small but do there job good i am defly looking at upgrading the lighting tommorrow so i need to figure something out i also have a old grow box might make a new one in the coming week. Would one of those blue kinda lights you use for reptiles work good i can get a pickture if u dont know what im talking about. man im high.

yea bro deff NOT! on that UVB unless you want ash for plants! lol no really this basically causes the plant to get sunburn which is no bueno it will curl and die reason bein that the plant gives up certain necceties to try and fight it and basically turns the thc inside out meaning reversing the effect no bueno its like putting a flood light in your grow not good cus it just causes plant to have heat stroke. if i was you i would keep the cfls going and if you want to upgrade in lighting with 10 20 bucks i suggest you buy a cpl more 150=42 watt 6500k cfl bulbs. just threw some into the mix on my grow and is showing lots of progress! =) well whatever you decide to do i wish you luck happy growing! peace!!!

dude, you dont want 20-20-20 fertilizer, get something more like 30-10-10 for growing, and 5-20-20 for flowering, or anything close to that...

Okay thanks on letting me know about that light and that sucks badly : (. Im also not useing nutes at this point and im not even sure if i wanna use nutes at all the plants are doing wonderful : D

Okay well i was going to post some pictures but i got the wrong camera cord. Ill have to find that.

Okay so this is the end of like week 2 or something like that....
For plant 1

For plants 2 and 3 its the end of the first week.

Plant 1 has shown alot of new growth
With a couple sets of leaves on it and i just toped two branchs and it sprouted 2 new sets at each place topped.

Im looking at getting more light into this grow and hopfully i will be able to.

Plants 2 and 3

Plant 2 is about half a inch tall and has 4 leaves on. Thats all its about done....

Plant 3 has still got 2 leaves on it
so not much progress there.

Im thinking on moving the plants into a grow box.

I had one before that did pretty good i just needed to keep that light one inch away....

The one i was using before had 2 fans in it. Both where 10mm computer fans tape into holes in the back of the back spliced together to 12v ac/dc adapters.

Made out of wood the temp would stay like 70-90. Thats also becuase its in my shed.

Okay. So i still live with the rents and im 19 and shit so what i have had a simliar box in my closet before and never caught ma dont ever go into my room.

The area im useing now is in the shed also. But.....

I wanna move it inside with winter comming in the next month or so i wanna have everything prepared to keep on growing right threw : D now the idea with a grow box i drew last night on some paper.

The space i have is inside of my closest tucked up in the farest corner now mine you its not much. Its like 2 doors and bam! theres the inside. but..

The measures ments for the new cabinet are as follows::

about 3 ft tall maybe 2 ft tall
just under 2 ft wide 23 inchs
and 3 or 2ft inchs long.

I left my other book somewhere lol. so doing it from memory.

It will have 2 fans one intake bottom and exhaust top. It would have something the the back so no light would show threw but air could still pass without burning up my fans.

I would mount a power strip inside and cut a hole for the plug.

Lights i would like to upgrade my lighting in this one with like 6 lights if possible. Was think about useing the floodlight fixtures and some 8 gauge wire splice the two together like i did before.

If i did that it would be 4 fixtures i would need to mount inside the box and heat it worry me a little bit to.

End of next week on sunday i will be able to spend 50-60 bucks on this box. For lighting or something that would be really good for the plants : D.

I would most defly be putting in 100 watt bulbs or 125 something better.
