I'm a starting a new cfl grow this willll be your second time usein cfl first time I only witnessed the veg cycle but wow I was I'mpressed I used 3 85watt cfls that were huge they put out around 5600k temp. In 3 weeks I had 18+ inches. But I was looking for some advice on usein cfls I know I'm not the only one who has done this.

I have used big cfl's too, 105 actual watters. CFL light is soft and doesnt penetrate well, so the trick is to use lots of it! Higher actual wattage bulbs are nice, but they are big, some put out excess heat, and have to be kept as close as lower wattage CFL's. You seem to be on the right track, just remember to gradually shift from more blue spectrum Cfl's during veg to more red spectrum cfl's during flower.

Here was my first ghetto cfl fixture. 6 x 45watt 2700K (actual) just a cheap vanity fixture from lowes a piece of 1x6 ,a 12 ft extension cord and 3 Y splitters. you have to keep the girls close to the lights about 3 inches . haveing to keep the lights so close means you will have to check you set a couple times a day to keep them from burning especially during early flower.

I found that the big 100 actual watt 5000k were cool to the touch even! However the 105watt red put out heat. Scorched one plant by placing it to close over tops. Thank goodness it turned out to be male. CFL is effective but I have gradually shifted to led because of lower environment temps, lower power consumption, longer bulb life.

stick to cfls with watts between 20-30, and get as many as possible, in say 3 20 watt cfls you could have 4000 lumen where as in 1, 105 watt you with be getting 3200 lumen, you could run 5 20-30 watt cfls and get 5500 lumen, and use 5 watts less, and you can distribute the cfls around the mj rather than having medioca lighting in one area and using a lot more electric, all i grow with is cfl's, if you grow autos like me then you can just use red 2700k bulbs, but i like to mix them up, but saying all that, if you have a spare cfl laying around, throw it in.
