cfl growing help??

seed jus sprouted 2 days ag nd right now its only under an 18w cfl i was wondering how much more cfl's ima need for 1 plant with a 40$ budget for cfl's nd y splitters 4 veg nd flower stage nd maybe if im lucky i can add on later

the more CFL's you get, the better, your are definately gunna need more, aim for 100W per plant for a fair decent result, i hope your 40 is for just your lights, if it is, spend all of it.... atm for like a week or so the 18 will be fine

I think the minimum people use are the 23 watt CFLs and up, and how many you need really depends on how big you plan on getting this plant.

Also keep in mind, that 2 different types are used depending on stage, 5000k-6500k for veg growth, 2700k for flowering.

The more the better. If when you open your closet you might think you trapped the sun in there accidentally, then you have enough lights. :)

The fewer you have the more you need to concentrate on the distance to the plant(top and sides). You can do it with 3/4 42W bulbs strategically placed around a single plant and get decent results. Look for the 'Buds for Less' book, the methods in there are pretty solid to learn from.

use the highest W you can, 2700K temp.
a 45w equals around 3x23w effective light-wise.

Usually if you want to get more than 100 grams per run HID is cheaper than CFLs in the aftermath.

Not sure where you get your lights from but I personally found that Wall-Mart had the best overall prices for light bulbs/sockets/Y-splitters ect-Home Depot has better prices than Lowe's and I read a post where they broke down the cost per watt and 26wtrs (I'm pretty sure I found these at W-M) were the most cost efficient overall. I am not even close to knowing anything about whats better only I just recently shopped and bought for myself-hope it helps :)

You could but the heat generated by those lights might be a bit too much depending on your space. I know it was for me. I "downgraded" to my current set up, after my 400w HPS from college days was blasting way too much heat in the grow area I'm currently using. Either way you go 1000bulbs has some bad ass deals.

I find that a 400W HPS produce less heat than 400W worth of CFLs and much easier to cool.
If you want so much light to begin with.
