The built in ballast will get pretty darn warm, but the bulb shouldn't be that hot especially being at the blue end. It should be fairly warm, but shouldn't cause much discomfort for a second or two. A couple of inches from the bulb should be only warm to your skin. Are you sure that's a CFL light and not a halogen? I'm not certain about that model light.

Is this what you are reffering to? I did a search on google and this was the 1st site selection.
125w Envirolite complete with Euro reflector with choice of Lamp colour, use RED for flowering and Blue for Veg and Cuttings and mother plants. £55.00, Hydroponic supplies, grow lights, co2 and more...

It does look like it could get kinda of hot. Most of these people are comparing this to a cfl. The cfl's are usually alot less watts.
I would say as long as you can place you hand on the top of the plant closest to the light and leave it for a few min and not feel discomfort your plants should be fine. That model does come with either blue 6500k or red 2700k. the k is reffering to the color spectrum.
Blue for veg and red for flower.

damn, is that 125 actual watts? My bad, I was thinking watts equiv rating they print on most cfl boxes. I can see where that might get mighty hot.

Dude, I veggged under 2 x 125W blue spec enviro's and they did a lovely job.

I had no trouble with my temps in my small veg cupboard. Just a couple of PC fans for extractors and a small fan blowing on the plants. The lights were never more than 2-3 inches away from the tops of my plants. See my gallery for the pics. They were under the envirolites until about Day 40 ish, then I got a 400W HPS to flower them with. But I am also using the red spec enviro's for side/low lighting for flower, as well as my HPS.

So basically, these lights are ace and you don't need to worry much about the heat output, that's for sure. All the best with your grow man! :joint:

a watt is a measurement of heat. 125 watts is nothing sinister, but you don't want your plants to touch the bulb.
A watt is a measurement of power, not heat. You don't read a thermometer in watts. :-?

A 100W incandesent bulb, is WAY hotter than my 125W envirolites.
