~~~~CFL / HPS Grow....11 Day's old...PLEASE HELP!!!~~~~

Ok soo here we go.....

THE SET UP~~~~

-5 bagseed started in 4'' plastic pot's...

-Miracle Grow 6 month time relese soil......(What should my P.H. be at with this soil?)

-6 20 watt cfl's (4 are 2400 k, 2 are 6500 k...couldent find any cheap 6500k's)

-Soil P.H. tester....I am also useing it to test and p.h. the water mainly

-I am useing vinger and bakeing soda to adjust P.H.

-P.H. test strips....I think i forgot the soulition lol...dont know how to use them

-Home Made reflector....(Card board box with tin foil lining.)

-I have my 150 watt hps coming tommaro...(I will use it to flower)


What we got so far~~~~

-They are 11 days old today...
-I had some small burnt leaves on lower branches ....all i got is a box fan on them
-They are starting to show Pre-Flower shoots....(some taking longer then other's)
-I have been keeping the water P.H. between 6 and 8....

Question's and help~~~~

-I am new to this kinda...I have done it before... but never P.H.ed the water or soil...so i never got a "Real Plant". The P.H. and Flowering is where i will need help and over all just helping me along... ... so any help would be great!!! thanks

What would you like help with? Do you have questions? Ditch the MG soil next run. Use either roots or foxfarm. You don't need to worry much about ph in soil. I grew for years before I ever checked any soil ph.

Will you be adding nutes? If so what kind? Tap water or r/o water?

No i dont ever add nutes. I dont know how or ever learened the knolwadge of how to add nutes. I saw in a book called "Bud's for less" I am sure you have heard of. He never added nutes... thats what i am aiming for... soil i can use....where i NEVER have to add nutes...

I never adjusted ph... now i am adjusting the p.h. of the water....and i hope it will work better...

Is there other soil i can use where i dont ever have to ad nutes for the plants entire life cycle?

What should the P.H. of my water be at right now? I use white viniger and bakeing soda to adjust it.

I'm using miracle grow as well and I use nutes after a few weeks, I notice alot of improvement you'd be suprise how much just alittle could help your grow. Get rid of the foil, that's where the burning is coming from. Honestly I don't check my PH to much either I have good water around me and I have never noticed an issue. Also, it seems you are using alot more 2700 then 6500 and your vegging correct? If your inflowering your good but I would change the ratio the other way around then you have it. I'm pretty sure your gona need to eventually get nutes for whatever soil you use but You could still do it naturally but you will most likely run into deficiency problems. I tried doing it without nutes and towards the end of veg and beginnging of flowering i had lots of deficiencies show, the moment i spiked the water i notice an enormous amount of change.

Head over to the organic section in subcool's section and look for subcool's super soil recipe. Amazing results ... just add water.

If u ever read the book.. "Buds for less" this guy...he used miracle grow time relase and dident ever add nutes the entire time

Ok so Its 6:15 in the mornin. lol...I get my 150 watt hps today....I want to flower these babys ASAP....When do you think i could start?
And right now they are in 4'' pots.....What size pots should i transplant them into?
I was thinking about Topping them....But should i do it after or before i put them into flowering?
Should i do some LST also?

I'd suggest putting them in 3-5 gallon pots with better soil ASAP. The end quality of smoke will be a lot better. You've made the commitment to go this far don't leave a vital step flawed. Give them a week or two in good soil to get their roots established and send them into flower. You don't want them too tall with a 150 HPS. It will grow great buds but you are limited in penetration..

Oh and I would suggest you bend them over and tie the main stem down to facilitate more branching once you have them repotted for a few days. Once you flip the light cycle you can use that stretch to train them. Try to keep your canopy as even as possible. If you are in a hurry to flower you don't really want to top them now.

Topping should be done in veg, then I'd give it a week to recover before throwing into flower. I've heard that you should use a gallon a foot for pots, so depending on how tall you want your plants to be pick that size 3 ft = 3gal etc. Again I'm still on my first grow don't quote me. LST as you need for space.

Yes ...but ... I want that main cola to be gone (Topping).. so all the buds will be at an even leval.... or could i just do lst some how?

Use fim'ing to redirect hormones for a more even canopy.

UPDATE !!!.......I took down the cfls... i will use them cfl's to start another crop for vegging...I have the 150 watt HPS over them now... it is a little hot....even with that box fan blowin on them.... but i think i will be ok...
This is my first time useing hps lighting... before i have always used some kinda floresent... i am hopeing to get a nice yeild

By the way... it is day 13 for them today....3/29/11.....and how do i add pics to these damn sentinces so i can show them to you guys...lol

You'll need to solve the temp issues obviously, but the light needs to be closer. An hps of that size should only be about 6 in or even a little less above the canopy. You're losing out in the best light by having your plants too far away.
