just fyi, i have 40w cfls that i put closer than yours... you should be able to put those about 1 inch to 1 1/2 inch away from the plants, and they will love it... after about 4 inches those cfls dont produce very much.

Why dont you get a split for those lights? I use same type of fixtures and when I use 100w equives I double those bad boys up. I would also see if you could get them a lil closer.

This website is an absolute dream. It's great for beginners, like me, to be able to ask you guys anything we need to know. I started off using an AeroGarden...Half my crop died due to root rot. Some guys have been successful with that, but all I can see it being used to germinate seeds before transplanting them into a flood n drain system.

My girls aredoing great. I don't know ifany of you were talking to me, but I put all my cfl's about 2" from the closest leaf, and I can see the leaves already reaching out for the lights. I also put my 40W tube closer, about 2" from the top leaf. I've been vegging them since 04/22. Remember I started with that aerogarden. On 05/12 I moved the surviving 3 skunks into my homemade flood N drain system. And on 05/25 I bought the flouresent lights and fixtures. I was thinking about starting to flower them on 06/08, in about 2 weeks. That would put them at about 3 solid weeks on veg, under ideal lighting and watering cycles. Is that too soon? Should I give them an extra week? Maybe so that they have 4 solid weeks of veg under ideal conditions? Your help and comments would be greatly appreciated.

I think your lights will be fine, even closer than 2" is good... just watch em.. Honestly I have been vegging for 26 days now and I think I am going to start flowering at exactly one month.. its really up to you, I mean some people start flowering at 3 weeks, some at a month, some at a foot long, some at 3-4 months... it all depends on your space and patience and how much you want to yield.. you can flower WHENEVER you want and they will flower.. but for my first grow i will be vegging for about a month.. once the plants turn into what my eyes sees as a nice yield, ill flower :-D keep us upated :joint::peace:

I was reading about theyields of shiva skunk. It said indoors will yield 125g, or about 4 1/2 ounces, but growing in a greenhouse will yield upto 500g,or about 18 ounces. Why is there such a large gap betwwen indoors and the greenhouse?

Strange as it sounds, my understanding is mirrors are not the best, most efficient way to reflect light. Light has to pass through glass twice to be reflected and some light energy gets absorbed/lost in the process. Mirrors are usually a silver layer that sits on a dark base layer. Some light energy is absorbed by the sliver layer. Mirrors also reflect heat energy so if there are any imperfections in them, they will create hot spots.

Foylon and Mylar are good reflectors but for ease of use and price Flat white paint is your best bet.
