So, i was told i need about 75w/plant using CFLs. no big deal except that all the CFLs i find are like, 11w and 13w and i have about 18 plants. Am i really going to need 115 light bulbs because i read somewhere that a 13w CFL was equal to a 75w regular bulb....any ideas?

CFLs are only good if you keep em within a few inches from the plants. So you'd have to adjust them every day or two to keep em at a good distance. But doing that say with 18 plants (assuming you'd have at least 3 bulbs per plant) sounds like a lot of work to me :O

8 plants 2 weeks old?

Ideally, you would have a cfl within 1-3 inches of EVERY LEAF ON THE PLANT.
You also have to take into account, that when you start flowering your plants, they will double in size (at least - if you flower them before they reach maturity, they will grow even more!). Do you have enough CFLs to cover 8 plants that size?

CFLs are best for growing smaller plants. Smaller plants means less bud sites, but that does not mean less bud. CFLs can still produce good yields. It is just a different style of growing.

I am growing 3 plants and I plan on switching to 12/12 at 2 weeks. W/ 5 40watt CFLs and 4 23 watt CFLs.

go to 1000bulbs.com and click on screw in cfl's and then 2 to 200 watt screw in and look at the bottom they have some 105 watt 6700k that
equal 500 watt [for veg] and some 85 watt 3000k [flower] that are great do the math to find out how many you will need . you wont need as many a few big one's around the top of the box and some 55w 2700k around the sides of the box and you should be good. this is what i do and so far i love it the next step i need is co2 but i don't know how i feel about buying it .
