CFL Tutorial

Hey roseman I was also wondering how exactly you topped and pruned your plants? Being only my second time growing and first time growing in the bubbleponics I was curious on how to prune the plants so that they can yield as much as possible. Right now 1 is 18 inches tall and the other is 16 inches tall. Thanks!
 
Awesome roseman thanks again! Do you think it would be a good idea to top the plants even if one is 20 inches now?

Thanks once again for the advice! I'm going to try and post some pics with this reply so hopefully it works and tell me what you think.
 
I'd try and definitely use more than one because with one you may not end up with the best results. But if you had to stick with only one I'd say go around 6500K which is the bluish cool white bulbs. I'd recommend getting a 2700K soft white bulb or a 3000K warm white bulb too for flowering.

I'd say if you could only get one k, I'd get a flowering spectrum bulb for the whole grow.

Suggesting that only because we want good powa for the flowa right, and for me personally, im shooting to veg for 1 month and flower for 2 months, so flower also takes more time of the grow? But, without a healthy veg stage Id wager to say the plant would perform horribly in bloom Id say.

Id hope you don't waste your time and money for nothing, with poor results to make you maybe drop the grow altogether and your experience, get both spectrum for good growth.

Don't come to the table unprepared, please plan ahead for success, and damn failure.

IF I HAD to jsut use one bulb, I'd use a mid-range 4100K or 5100K.

Those are about half way inbetween the 2700 and 6500.

OR I 'd go with a 2700K, at least half the time, I'd have the right kevin bulb for the right cycle (BLOOM).

Lowes and Home Depot offer both, in a 65 and 68 watt CFL, for about $16 each.
 
cool, thanks i found a 150W 2700k cfl at superstore so maybe ill just get a 6500k one and switch off i never thought about that

okay so i finnally got down to home depot and spent some time and left with some parts cost $40.81 , 2 68w-4200 lumen-2700k cfls at $14.97 each, 1 living room fixture (only for the dual light fixture part) $4.87, 2'Lx 4"id ac ducting(it comes un rolled jus bend it out a lil bit) $2.81, and $3.11 TAX

the pic is finished product i hung it up as my top light and moved the other 6 26w-1750lumen cfls aroun the sides of the plants

so total i add up thats 292w-18,900 lumens for a 6sqft area (3150 lumens per sq ft)

so for 2 plants is this enough light?
they showed female a week before i put them on 12/12
one is 20" tall some bud sites
the other is 11" , alternating nodes and many budsites
 
Ive been doing a lot of reading on the forums and i think im getting closer 2 what my set up will look like

Im rolling a 1mx1mx2m grow room with
two 125watt 6400k cfls
four 85watt 6400k cfls
four 23watt 6400k cfls
four 23watt 2700k cfls

im just wondering if this is enough light for 4 - 8 plants?
 
I'm curious if anyone uses mylar tape placed on the bulb for a reflector? I just put a piece that covers slightly less than the top half of the CFL bulb. Would love to know Roseman's thoughts on this.

"Enough Light" is calculated on "amount of lumens per sq foot" and not on wattage or number of plants.

Go back to the first page of this thread, and find the HOW MUCH LIGHT part adn read it again, it tells you how to figure if you have sufficient or ample light.

MYLAR is my favorite reflective material, and I use 100% CLamp Reflectors now. I just bought and received a LIGHT METER and I also bought a PARABOLIC reflector. I am going to put some MYLAR inside the Clamp Reflector and see what reflects the most light, the plain Clamp Reflector,or the one with Mylar, or the Parabolic reflector.

I think you did good to use mylar as a reflector for your lights.

I wanted to get a light meter and test the difference between a plain bulb and one with tape on it. Maybe after this next harvest. Or hopefully you do it. lol

Just went back to the first post and did the calculations for the lights I just ordered. I'll have 5,000 lumens per square foot in a couple/few days! :clap: (It's a 2'x4' eight bulb fixture; four each of 30K & 65K.) That means it's almost time to flip to 12/12!!! :hump:
