I got 12x18 watt cfls on 18/6 and an ocilating fan, and its eating quite alot of my electric, i thought cfl's were engery efficient, kinda wondering if its worth keeping em on. Anyone else from uk using cfl's ?

well 12 18 watt cfls and a fan would be about the same as having a computer running 18/6 try taking some out if the bill is too high

I have 11-CFL's in my room for a total of 380 CFL watts and my bill remains unchanged maybe a few dollars a month I'm not sure but I think my 400w HPS draws 400 watts and 4.6 amps at start up and like 3.4 amps running but its old... saw a stady 20 buck increase a month with it 12/12 schedual the CFL's are efficent I don't care what anyone says look for other reasons you power useage is up sorry no help...:leaf:

Are you living alone? It could also be a few things like lights, pc, older fridge/washing machine, heat if your on electrical or a/c. Not sure if any of these are applicable where you live.

No its definatley the lights because i have a pre payment electric meter, not sure if you have them over in US, but you dont get a yearly bill just put it into the meter via a card as and when you need it, also on the meter there is a little blinking red light (the faster it blinks the more electricity your using) and when the room is switched off there is a 12 second gap between the blinks, and when i turn it on theres a 5 second gap, so god knows

Hmm, that is odd. I've got a 312W CFL, two 400W HPS's, and two 5,000BTU A/C units and my electric is just about what it cost me last year. Granted I was able to turn off my central A/C during the day and that was what was costing me a LOT of extra money. Much more than the lights and A/C units.

There has to be another explanation...CFLs use 1/4 of the power as an incandescent ...so 12 is = to 3 reg. bulbs...no way thats more then a buck or few a month...You could use T5's instead..It's more efficient than 2 million CFLs'...plus you can get red bulbs.. 12 x cfl's = approx $60... A T5 with 2 X 22" bulb, reflector and hanger are approx $69. (HTG supplies..US only).plus the red bulb is $19... so for a few $$'s more you can get a better set-up..granted its not HID..but better.. IMO

Maybe your next door neighbor is stealing electricity from your apartment! For THEIR grow...

That might not be wrong..I lived in an apt. block and I had the smallest unit, so in the winter I see my bill is real high..so I checked...turns out that all the hallway lights, block heater outlets were running off my circuit......:wall:

I lived in a building like that once but it was an old office building that was converted to apartments and everyone had to split the electric. Needless to say everyone tried to use as much as they could so they weren't getting screwed... people.

im on a pre-pay lecky meter too, they do cost more than quarterly billing but i run 2 x 125w eco-lites(the large high power cfls) 18hrs per day, an rvk 4" extractor and a desk fan 24hrs in veg room.
And a 600w hps 12hrs per day, 5" rvk and deskfan 24hrs in flower room, and it all costs me about an extra £2 per week. maybe switch your electricity supplier? find out how much they charge you per Kw/h and how much their weekly meter charge is and compare it to others.
