I am using cfls...i jus been reading up alot and people seem to be using cfls alot more which either mean its cheaper or thays its better. Most led gardens ive seen also had cfls n them. And ive seen good looking plants with cfl.

cfls was what I had in mind I live in a small town in Alabama the biggest cfls I could find hear were 42 watt I wonted bigger ones but I will have to drive a little way to get them but I found some leds at Lowe's hear they were 2700k 800 lumens I think it said 75watts not sure on that but it got me wondering witch was best this is my first grow

CFLs fail in comparison. CFLs for anything other then supplemental lumens and some veg rooms are not good... Just suck it up and get a 400watt off the list of craig for cheap

Ive had nothing but great success in my earlier years with florescents and cfls. cheap, easy access and they get the job done.

I don't think you should get an LED from Lowe's, chances are it's a really shitty light for growing cannabis. If you go with an LED, buy something decent otherwise you will regret it.

ive only grown with cfl indoor, with great results. i think more of the smaller watt are better than 1 or 2 of the larger though. you can move them around the plant and have all budsites covered not just the top and with less heat... vary your spectrum and you will have great results too.

What unorthodox said.

Leds are great, just pricy.

Both led and cfl are only good for short plants.

Can get a 250watt hps for less than a 100, a 400watt for a little over I think

I have also been looking at some CFLS 68 watt ( same as 300 watt) 2700k they are at home depot $16.00 each will that be better than leds from Lowe's the led are flood lights I think ?????????????????

Unless you are willing to spend hundreds on a proper LED grow panel from a reputable company, then go with CFLs. Just aim for around 80 watts (or more) per square foot of grow space, and you will be good to grow (actual watts, not the "equivalent" bullshit)

I guess you speak from experience on this, sure seems like there are many people on here that disagree with you and use CFL's for 100%

Those 68 watt bulbs you speak of are great for flowering. They are 2700k spectrum and put out over 7000 lumens and they are available at HD for just $16.

Funny you say they fail, do you have any experience wit that? How come so many seem to have successful grows with them and you dont? Maybe it wasnt the lights that were the failure.

I've grown great crops with LED, and never spent "thousands". Got any pics of your "thousands" priced LED grow room to where you can say a statement like that?

Unless you have a thousand bucks to buy a decent LED dont waste your time with them.
I have 4 of these from Home Depot, and they are not 7000 lumens. Try 4200 lumens. http://www.homedepot.com/Electrical-Light-Bulbs-CFL-Light-Bulbs/h_d1/N-5yc1vZbmat/R-100676712/h_d2/ProductDisplay?langId=-1&storeId=10051&catalogId=10053

Lastly, lumens are seen by humans, not plants.

Got any other good info for us?

The 42's are my fav, anything bigger and it becomes difficult to position the bulbs around the plant, and you start wasting light.
