hey im kinda new to growing, im currently growing with a 80w fluerescent light. im growing auto-flowering dwarf plants at the moment and am wondering wat cfls would best suit my grow and how many i would need.any suggestions or comments im gratefull for. thanx all

minimum amount would be 6 42w cfl's ( 150w equivalents) per plant.

i see you are in the uk like me, and they don't sell 42 watters, you can do it with afew more of the the 24w cfl's surrounding the plant.

it would be a pretty uneconomical investment man.
you'd be much better off with a 400w+ hps.

to be blunt, the amount you would spend on running enough 24w cfls, along with the initial cost of them and the heat problems, it would not be worth doing. the yield wouldn't be worthwhile.

if you are intent on using cfl's i would go for an enviro-light;

105w
150w
200w
250w

not expensive, around £30 for 150w ones.
(by the way, i believe you are using an 80w equivalent bulb)

bongsmilieI'm still pretty new at this myself, but one thing I learned real quick is if ur gonna use cfl's to grow, u gotta have LOTS of lights, and as close as possible without burning the plants, also, I read somewhere on this site to have one light for each leaf on the plant. Check in the cfl forum.

im just trying to find the best setup for me (if you know wat i mean). well i only have a 3 foot hight to work with and wouldnt a 400w hps do damage to the plant as i cant keep far enuff away from the plant? thanx by the way u helping me out.

i found dis light 200 watt 6400k enviro light white/blue spectrum light would this be a suitable growing light for my auto flowering plants? also if so how many would u recoment for say 4 plants?

i have 2 4' flo tubes from my old fish tank i think they r warm white could i grow lowrider wiv them? i don't now what wats they r?

If my understanding is correct, a plant in the veg stage would use more of the BLUE spectrum. While a flowering plant would need more of the RED spectrum of light. Thus the Metal Halide(BLUE spectrum), is used more for vegetive growth, and High Preassure Sodium(RED spectrum) for flowering. Anyone please correct me if I'm wrong on this... pretty sure its right though

bongsmilieI'd run about 10-26watt bulbs thats plenty of light for small plants and the 26 watters don't get real hot the bigger you go the worse the lumen to watt ratio gets and you'll get so much heat more small bulbs:eyesmoke:

you could easily use a 400w hps, just make an air cooled hood / cooltube.

only an extra £20 if you keep it simple.
trust me, a 400w hps is a much better investment.
if you cant sort the cool hood/tube out then a 250w hps with a couple of supplementary enviros / cfls would be ideal.
