Changing activated carbon in filter?

So my filter is starting to give and i usually would just buy another one but I'm trying to save some money. I never opened one of these up so I'm not quite sure what to expect but I do know there's activated carbon inside don't know how much but I bought 40 ounce container. you guys got any tips you can give me or anything that I can expect when i open this thing up?anything else I need?

If your unit is all metal and small enough, toss that bitch in the oven cook her thirsty to soak up stink again without changing a thing. I forget temp but the google would find it for you. It works... two or three hours n shes horny for the stink eatin again!

I beleive it is very similiar but not identical to chatcoal. I beleive it chemically it is but its more pourous on microscopic level. But i dont disagree ive built stink eaters otta plain charcoal and silica kitty litter in drilled out 5 gallon pail w a fart fan attached to lid to draw air through worked dandy

I always thought it was charcoal shave down to size just they could be small enough to fit a bunch of them in an air filter?

Baking activated carbon in your oven will not reactivate it. In order to reactivate carbon, it has to reach a temp of like 1500+*F -so unless you have a bad ass oven...... You can regenerate it for aquatic purposes by oven and chemical treatments, but not for air filtration.

I've got one that is 4ft and will need to be replaced soon...the activated charcoal seems kinda expensive...how much will it take to fill up one of my hieght ?

If I had to guess, I'd say like 15+ lbs. Im about to order some bulk carbon and redo my can-lite 10"x36" (6" flange). Im getting 20 lbs to be safe. I know the filter is quite heavy & probably weighs somewhere around 25 lbs with the flanges, metal mesh, screen & carbon. I'll post up some info once I actually get the carbon and tear into the filter. @whitebb2727 has experience in this area and could probably give better info than I can on this subject.

That may or.may not work. Some is made with coal and some with coconut husk. The coconut is better it last longer.

They have a mesh liner that needs replaced first. I use metal window screen and bake for a few hours at 500. It will smell aweful when baking.

Sorry that's not entirely true. I have done it at 500. I showed the pics in my thread. Even had the police knock and talk to me less than 50 foot from my exhaust a week or two later. It works without a doubt.

As for.what it will fill. A 16 pound box I ordered will refill 3-4, 4x12 filters.

How long did you get out of it after baking it?
