These setups are loud... There are things you can do to quiet them.

1) Get a fan speed controller for $25... This way you can turn it down to a lower level.
2) If it's the fan that is loud you can put it in a plastic bin and pack pillows or insulation around it. Just cut two holes in the side for your intake and outtake.
3) You can also hang the fan by bungies if it's vibrating.
4) It seems to me that the more venting length I add the quieter the exhaust is.
5) Maybe try expanding your venting to a larger size using a reducer. If it's 6 inch fan expand it to 8 inch or more.
6) You can make a muffler. Fill a 5 gallon bucket with popcorn package filler and drill a bunch of dime-sized holes in the bucket.
7) Simply wrapping a pillow around the end of your vent quiets it a lot.

Just mess around. You'll be able to quiet it significantly. Fan Speed Controller is the first place to start.

I have this one.. Works awesome.

Thanks a lot for the reply I think I'm gonna make one of these 3 or 4 ft long.

Gonna go 6" from fan to 8" one of those back to a 6 and then from that to a 4x8 out the window..think this is good?

Yea, as long as you dont create any back pressure... So it's the noise of the air coming out the vent that is too loud?

I think i'd first get the speed controller... Then I'd wrap a pillow inside of a cardboard tube and try that real quick then build the muffler. I always start with the easiest thing first.

Give your pre filter a wash if it's dirty. Kind of looks like it from the pic but I can't be sure.

Just wash it in the washer on gentle or wash it by hand in the sink. Yes, it should be white. When it's dirty it creates extra work for the fan. The carbon in the filters also wears out so keeping your gear clean will make it last longer. The can filters that size are expensive.

There is a problem with using ceiling fan controllers. I forget exactly what it is other than it's a pain to make. These will wear out your vortex fan according to what I have read. I forget the mechanics of it all.

The only problem I've found is to make sure its s dimmer for a fan and not a light..I think this is my only option I don't wanna wait for one in the mail lol..so put the filter on a 35 min normal cycle ? Same with dryer ? It won't ruin it ? How are these so expensive haha..

I think I'm gonna make a tube thing 30" inch long with a 6" inside insulated n wire meshed with 6" connectors on each side along with the dimmer..should solve my problems for around.60$ lol

So I put this boot on it . its a 6 x 4 x 10 instead of a 6-4 reducer

Fan before no boot and no reducer.
Fan with reducer lowest setting

And fan with highest setting on reducerhttp://youtu.be/kkqsyndE2OY
