Cheap & Easy Inline fan - under $30

Yeah I have been looking into doing the reverse of what I have for the exhaust, exactly what you stated, a 10" over the ass end. Might do that this week as I did pickup another fan, Walmart had it on their clearance rack for some reason for $9 and is exact same fan... guessing it was a return or something.

i know boosters suck but so do ghetto fan rigs. i was simply suggesting that if your not gonna use the proper equipment [inline] then use a booster or TWO and if your gonna make a ghetto rig then that is FINE but IMO it shouldnt be TAUGHT in a DIY 'how to' thread. Its just wrong.

i suppose its not a fire hazard so its not a big deal. i just have this problem with diy IN AN INDOOR GARDEN THAT GROWS CANNABIS, simply because of the stereotypes. you know, the typical growroom is fire hazardous, wires running every sometimes sitting in water etc..

I find my inline booster fan is more of a fire hazard to many, as if you buy from Home Depot, lowest etc... the boosters have no plug, leaving wiring up to the person who bought it... A long time ago I took off the table that most people have common sense, when many do not. In the case of this diy inline fan, the wiring is done, it is a UL approved fan and is very simple to do.

I still don't get how your fan blows so hard. the same one that you bought I bought at Walmart for $16.00 is weaker than my 6" 340 cfm inline.

presently I have just the one DIY fan setup for fresh air into the room, outgoing there is 1 4" booster fan, 1 8" booster fan and a 4.5" hole. With the 3 handling out going air, it still blows out my panda film door like a baloon with a lot of resistance when I push on it. I will be replacing my 8" with a diy fan to level it out, the 4" is presently hooked to a air cooled hood, but is open inside the room to help pull air out not only from the hood but also the room.

Well maybe 800 cfm is a bit high, but had a friend bring over a commercial series roughly 480 cfm fan and set it up as an exhaust and the intake diy fan was still pushing more in than the 460cfm was taking out.

Large roll of Black Duct Tape $7.96
single metal self taping scew $0.08

I just did a very similar design using the same fan i believe. will post link so you can check it out. only thing i did differently was i only used household products for the fan and blower part, i will be attaching a duct/filter combo tomorrow!

I was looking at the same fan as an alternative to 6" inline duct fan which are loud as hell (and yes I have tried speed control, FAIL).
I believe the fan in the OP was a Honeywell Turbo Force which is rated 185 CFM (for comparison a 6" duct fan is 160 CFM). And the
TurboForce is a lot quieter for sure! Gonna see if this can work for air exhaust in my setup.

Good Instructions for small CFL or Tube Grows, however...

I did this type of thing once before, and it works as well as a booster fan IF...
1. you use it to ventilate a small grow area
2. you have no, or little restrictive ducting. (longer ducts, and more bends have bad effects)
3. you do not use filters (again, adding restrictive filtration will restrict the airflow)
4. you do not use hot lights

I had a little fan taped to a pvc pipe, that worked out well, when i was using fluorescent tubes in a small veg area, even a booster fan worked in my medium space with a 250 HPS. At that time, the ducting had one bend, and was only 4 feet long, without filters on intake or exhaust.

I had Issues with the grow I am doing now, it is the first time I added a carbon filter, and the booster fan was not keeping the closet cool enough. Spending money on a good centrifugal fan made a huge difference. (Don't let anyone fool ya, LEDs make heat that must be moved.) :D

I've been working on getting a small tent up and going and was thinking about this same idea for intake. I've got so many loud ass fans as it is and was wondering if this would work for a smaller area. I'm glad you tried and it's workin out. Think I'll go ahead and try it myself now.

All of them put together??!was he going to make more aswell..?? I have a fridge with a 400 w in it..
in oz now the temps are pushing 30 33 celcius ambient.. summer time usually peaks around 48 celcius ...
last year 50 celcius.. so worried I went and got an extra fan from local hardware... bunnings! It says 850cfm .... should be plenty for a fridge right?

U see the current 6 inch egay inline $30 special fan that I already have insalled is desiged to move air fast... and lots of it..
The other fan I got which is a roof mount ducted exhaust fan ..similar to a bathroom or kitchen is designed to move volume.. yeah itll suck the air out if room but not quick enough for heat removal...
my heat went up when adding a second fan..
Best be getting a inline... b done with it..
