Cheap lighting

Thats the best deal going right now.

HTGsupply is a good place to look for decent quality on the cheap.
HTG is a cheaper supplier b/c their customer service sucks. Their shipping provider breaks things and then HTG takes forever to replace them.

Which is typical of a crappy distributor, but they're products are fine.

strange...not my experience at all...had a light just up and quit....they shipped me a new one out the same day along with a return label to ship the broken one...they even overnighted it cause I lied and said I didn't have a backup...didn't cost me a dime for shipping or anything

and the light was almost exactly a year old

I can only respond with my experience, after ordering the 2 complete 600W HPS with digital ballast.

1. The first order was completely mangled by shipping.
2. They did not include all the parts on the replacement order, such as the necessary chain and free timer that I never got.

I gave up after that nightmare.

ebay hands down has the cheapest prices. i bought a 600 hps/mh for 180$ with a 4 inch duct hole on top. buy that, and a new bulb and your all set. the ballasts aren't the best so i don't bother with the MH. great price to get started.

If your wanting something a lot better quality then ipower for pretty much the same price then get a revolt ballast light package.

http://www.amazon.com/Horizon-Reflector-Digital-Ballast-Hangers/dp/B00725XJ0O/ref=sr_1_137?s=lawn-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1358802442&sr=1-137&keywords=gotham+hydroponics

It's even 200 more watts. And dimmable so you can turn it down and it would be just like a 400. I learned the hard way. Always buy with the future in mind ;)
Ipower works just as advertised as far as the ballast is concerned it was very professional and well built. So far I have 6 months on this one with no problem. (btw I am an Electrical engineer so GL explaining yourself on this one.) Spending anymore than that is just not needed for what we are doing with these lights you are simply paying for a brand name at that point.

I would like to point out that the bulbs that come with the kit are sub standard and for that reason I use them as back ups only.

Congrats on having your EET degree. Funny you say that seeing as I have one from DeVry universtiy. Oh and congrats on having a ballast running for 6 months, that's good I guess but I think mine that has been running for 5 years is a lot better IMO but hey your EET degree might be better then mine.

Oh and spending more? Hmm my ballast is what 5$ more. Oh wow watch out going to break the pocket books on this bro. If your so concerned about what I recommend for lighting then maybe you just shouldn't comment. So take your EET degree and shove it up your ass as far as I'm concerned.

Come talk to me when you have a few more grows under your belt. Thanks :D

Oh and what did you have to edit there buddy.

Giggles you my friend are a joke I have been watching you from a distance start shit in other threads. You never once explained why your ballast is better you are just slinging mud.
With that said the OP says cheapest and the one I linked works. As far as how long I have been growing please dont make me laugh bitch I am well beyond your level. You were
in the 250w club for a minute so don't try to front and act like some ganja god now. That's right bitch I know who you are and never liked you so lets keep this simple I will go ahead
and block your bitch ass as to not get involved in more of your genuine trolling.

Oh so because I was in the 250 club for a long time makes it so I can't grow good cannabis? Hmm ok. What do you want me to say about the revolt ballast other then it uses less electricity or that fact that it is more stable and a cooler internal workings, which part do you want me to defend?

Your beyond my level? Is this an assumption you have come up with in your head or is this proven fact? You are making me laugh so it's really no sweat off my shoulders. I never claimed to be a ganja god I just simply stated that ipower is a shit ballast. I've had 2 of them and both have quit on me so go ahead keep using it and think you know all as you already stated since you got that degree and all and I shouldn't even try bothering explaining myself you already made that clear.

So you don't like me? Oh wow someone in a online forum doesn't like me. OMFG! I'm going to go cry to myself now. You know who I am? Who's the troll here buddy evidently you have been following me and anyone could know me on here, it's this neat thing called going to my profile and viewing my posts. It's cool brotha block me your just one less I need to worry about.

Best of luck to you with your ipower setup. :D

Excuse me but I must ask...if the no name ballast is good enough why aren't the no name bulbs? Is there actually anything better about the brand name bulbs?

The ballast just produces power so as long as you find one that produces the right amount of power then the name brand does not mean anything. There is something to be said about cooling it obviously increases the shelf life of any electrical component but the OP asked for the cheapest not what you think will work best for him. As far as bulbs goes look up a $20 bulb and then compare there spectrum's to hortilux. You will find that while one is 3 times the price it produces a better variety of colors rather then a shit load of red/orange. I see what you did there but comparing ballast to each other is nothing like comparing the bulbs together apples and oranges people. Check out hortilux bulbs spectrum and you will see much more blue than standard hps bulbs.

Well I use ceramic metal halide which has a much better spectrum than any hortilux and only $50. I do use an hps in conjunction with the 2 cmh's in flower for the extra light power. I like Plantmax's bulbs for that.

I was just curious as to why you would go with $100 bulbs in $50 ballast is all

I personally do not like any electronic ballasts as mag coils last forever with only a cap and igniter change but the electronics need the entire unit replaced after only a few years...I do not feel the supposed tiny elec consumption saving nor the other supposed claim of increased output supports the trade off in longevity

Is your ipower ballast UL listed?
