Attention all experienced outdoor growers...

I need help planning my soil mixture for my first outdoor grow. I have a limited budget so something simple and cheap would be ideal. I have 9 plants Im putting in the ground so please specify how much soil I should be buying per plant or what I'll need for all 9 of them...

Also let me know your reccomendations for potting them...Grow bag, burlap sac, hefty garbage bags, or just a hole in the ground with good custom soil, etc...

How wide and how deep too?... I want to grow monsters, and I dont care how tall they get...Some of this is for cash crop....

Any vegetative and flowering fertilizer brand suggestions are also appreciated.

Thanks all for your advice in advance...

Peace!

I use 1/3 perlite,1/3 peatmoss, (both no mg) and 1/3 mushroom compost. I add 1 tablespoon lime per gallon of mix. I would dig a hole and line it with a garbage bag punched with holes for drainage, but I've heard the burlap sack works really well too.
You will need some fert as well. I've head good thing about alaskan fish fertilizer for vegging, you can find it at walmart.

Bighippo read the posts before responding... mg is miracle grow. Do not get the perlite and peat moss that miracle grow sells because the time release fert can damage the plants. Schultz perlite is sold at walmart which has no nutrients. And premier peat moss at lowes is clean and also has no nutes.

Almost losing my finest lady taught me the lesson of having good soil ... I got Pro-mix BX from the feed store ... $25 for 3.8 cu ft compressed so that almost 8 loose bags ... that would be plenty ... you don't have to do anything to it ... just plant ... that is what I use inside and what I plan to use outside this year ... can't wait ... :hump: So for the price it's very economical ... and it saved my plant from extinction ... not to mention revived a very sick garden ... if you can't get pro-mix go for something like it ... I hear a lot of good things about a fox farm potting soil ... the point is try to find something you don't have to do anything to ... a good brand ...

I'm planting my girls in potting soil in the ground ... I'll make it 3 times the size of my pot ... and dig out about 3 ft in depth with a foot of loose dirt ... then put in some potting soil ... then the plant ... then more potting soil ... good luck to you ...

I am actually curious about this too, I will be doing my first grow here pretty quick outdoors as well and was wondering specifically what to get.

So get...

Schultz Perlite from Walmart
Premier Peat Moss from Lowes
Alaskan fish Fertilizer from Walmart

And some potting soil I assume?
And are you talking about lime juice, like at the grocery store?

ok here goes.

the plant in my avatar is grown in the dirt that is natural for my area .
i just dug in some sheep shit and put some fish in the ground below my girl.(i do that with all of my girls) then watered with fish emulsion.

now my soil is not the best as it has a high alkaline level ph 8.5 / 9
my water is from a limestone dam (high alkaline).

i do not ph my water and my girls grow well and produce well( 2.5 lb dried and cured off the one in my avatar)

so this stuff about buying expensive soil is all bullshit,i have been growing for 30 odd years and never bought soil just go to a spot turn the soil add sheep shit and fish and wallah i have a monster plant.

so if you want cheap soil just use what you have dig it ,mulch it ,add some animal shit, and water and of you go.

what do you mean by "sheep shit and fish"
sheep = woolly animals that wander around farms
shit = the waste they leave behind

so off to the shearing shed and rake up a bag of dry sheep shit

fish = those little things that swim in water.

throw in a line catch the fish and throw in the bottom of the hole whole.
about a foot to 18 inches below the level of the new plant.

and that is it:hump: :)

the fish idea has been around a long time the american indians used it to grow crops.(food crops)
and i have been doing it for some time.

i would recemend giving it a go.:hump:

so i asked the milk farmer at the end of my road if he had any year old cow crap he had a huge pile of 3 year old he said i could have as much as i wanted. so i used equal parts cow shit, perlite,bm1(peet), compost. then i add bonemeal and a hand full of lime per batch i do get some Espoma Super Triple Phosphate that i add later.
