J.R. Peters inc. or Jack's Classic or Jack's Professional

This is an amazing nutrient company. They've been around over 60 years and have over 60 different pure dry blends to choose from. almost any NPK ratio you can think of. EDTA chelated Copper, Manganese, Iron, and Zinc. I personally use their Jacks Classic Bloom Booster (10-30-20) and their Jacks Pro Hydroponics (5-12-26, a comparible NPK to AN's HammerHead, same PK ratio as Big Bud with added nitrate nitrogen) both as bloom boosters. I mix one gallon of distilled water per 2 lbs of salts. ALL salts dissolve into the water. Makes a professional grade bloom booster for under $10 a gallon that is considerably more concentrated than any PK booster you can buy.

Lets do a little price breakdown, shall we? This isn't hypothetical, this is how much these actually cost me when purchased online.

I purchased 10 lbs of Jacks Classic Bloom Booster (10-30-20) for $45 shipping and handling accounted for.
I also purchased 25 lbs of Jacks Pro Hydroponic (5-12-26) for $60 dollars shipping and handling accounted for.

Price Per Gallon
Jack's Classic Blossom Booster: 2lbs ($45/5) costs approx. $9.00 + .99 (for distilled water)= $9.99 per gallon
Jack's Pro Hydroponic: 2lbs ($60/12.5) costs approx. $4.80 + .99 (for distilled water)= $5.80 per gallon. (Remember this is comparable to AN HammerHead)

The concentration i'm mixing these at are rather concentrated, 2 lbs of salts per gallon of water, the salts add a surprisingly small amount to the volume of the solution, instead you have a gallon of nutrients that's tipping 10.4 lbs. in case you weren't aware, every gallon of pure water weighs 8.34 lbs, since gallons are a measurement of volume, and weight is a measurement of mass {kinda}, with 2nd grade math you can tell how much mass (the stuff you pay for that ISN'T water) has been added to each gallon of nutrients you purchase (or to put it simply, weight denotes concentration). I think you'll be hard-pressed to find nutrients that weigh 10.4 lbs per gallon that you aren't mixing yourself.

Mixing is very simple, remember to mix with distilled water (reverse osmosis water will also work), the company suggests to mix your concentrate at anywhere from 1-3 lbs/Gallon. i find it's very easy to mix 2 lbs/gallon at room temperature, although it might take up to 5 minutes for all the salts to dissolve. Remember that the warmer the water, the higher the solubility of the salts (the more you can shovel in there). However when the salts mix with the water, the water separates the ions in the salt, making an endothermic reaction (it gets cold). if you want to make a more concentrated mix than 2 lbs/gallon, i suggest heating your water beforehand.

Check them out, its a little difficult to look at all their products with the way their website is designed, just remember they have over 60 DIFFERENT PRODUCTS!

i use better/cheaper mixes, i just got the chemicals in powder, like calcium nitrate, potassium nitrate, mono potassim phosphate, magnesium sulfate and trace element mix, with an acid (sulfuric or phosphoric) for PH-... theres a wide range of chemicals you can get for hydro or for soil... you practically make your own mixes. these are cheap, they're actually considered raw material sold in 25kg bags. i will grow old before i can use them up lol

Ya coulda tossed Maxibloom up too.

1 product start to finish. No need for the Maxigrow.

Dirt cheap.Comes out to like 12 or 13 cent per feeding.

7 grams per gl.Ph has to come back up if using r/o water.

alright they sell 5lbs bags of NP and K on ebay for about $20

your plant needs a balanced diet, that leans towards K for the entire grow. there is no special new formula lol its just NPK ya dig

@zem thats ALOT of plant food. 55lb bags.... good for you (no sarcasm there). this is still rather cheap and a bit easier to do

@Dankster4Life you bring up a good comparison, but Jacks is significantly cheaper, has superior chelation, and IMO better NPK formulas. that being said, a nutrient grow-off between the 2 would be rather interesting, although i think jacks would triumph in outcome and price.

Would be nice to do a side by side yes.I have not seen/smoked any thing done with Jacks.MB stuff i've smoked and liked.

I think they both serve the same purpose though......simplicity for the gardener.

The cheapest way to go is subcools super soil. And when your plants are finished its reusable for your lawn or outside garden

I don't know munchbox.Stuff like jacks classic and the maxibloom are very good and they are really cheap.I still want to do up some SS though.

Nope, subcools soil is kick ass but it aint even close to being cheaper, cost breakdowns have been done & its cheaper than ff overpriced soils but not as cheap.

I ran soil over 20 years before switching to hydro full time,i used peters for decades, nothing on the market that is user ready & able to be bought at commercial stores compares, not in price & not in quality.

I still run my soil plants on peters when i dont feed them with waste rez water.

It would cost me around $300-350 to do a batch of SS where i'm at.Prices are high in my state due to laws.

I can get pro mix at $40 a bail and some Maxibloom for $15 for 2.2 pds.Using MB at 7 grams per gl of water comes out to be pennies for feedings.

So let's just say 2 bails PM and a small bag of MB......$100 and i can fill up around 55-60 3 gl pots and feed through out entire grow. That is pretty damn cheap if ya ask me.AND IT PRODUCES BOMB ASS SMOKE.

SS is cheaper
Ok now,you gotta post some numbers, your saying super soil is cheaper than $100 per 60 pots of the other growers mix,his mix costs roughly $1.50 a pot.

Thats damm cheap, from every estimate ive seen on super soil its atleast tripple the cost of promix & regular nutes, not that it isnt great shit i just feel blanket statements not backed up with numbers are extremely misleading & most times incorrect.

Please post a cost break down .

Its touph to compare side by side because supersoil is only used on the bottom 1/4 to 1/2 of the pot. I whip up a batch at less than half the cost you do

8 bags roots soil 80$
worm shit 30 lb 17$
blood meal 7$
bone meal 8$
bat guano 12$
I have enouph sweet lime, humic acid, epsom salt, and azomite to last a lifetime. since only just a little is used I don't add it in the cost. doesn't expire

I figure I can fill about 50 pots with a full batch of SS. But I use the 7 gallon pots

I would end up payin $20 each for the roots,$40 for #30 of ewc.Ain't that some bullshit?

Another thing to think of in the price is having to have other medium than the SS itself as it is needed also.

I think you are talking about the biobizz light mix. Its optional. I can't find it or else I would go 80/20 on the base soil/light mix. I usually add 7 bags of roots soil, and a cubic foot of high quality coco. One time I used the light warrior from fox farm as a sub for the biobizz light mix. But again, its optional. This time of year I can get worm castings dirt cheap from a local supplier. If it costs you 40$ for 30lbs. of earthworm castings, then I would suggest having it delivered over the internet will save you about 10$

I thought this thread was about "cheap high quality nutrients for plants?" unless you are trying to say SS is not high quality...

@munch box yes you are correct, that is what the title implies. my thoughts were more along nutrients OTHER than soil content, but it doesn't matter. good info is good info.

Why are so many people worried about being cheap? man, if you can't afford to grow, then don't grow. Just buy what you need. LOL

I use this lineup - and it's totally worth it. Just use a little less than the bottles tell you to and you save money without losing quality.

With cheaper nutes, I worry about losing quality. And I don't want to have crap smoke in the end, you know...

good lord man. This thread just turned into the most expensive and overpriced nutrients available. They work good, all I'm saying is you are paying for more than just a product. Yuo're paying for thier advertising, hype, and marketing.
