Cheapest way to go?

Hypothetically, if one had very little money but wanted to grow one or two plants for personal use, what would the cheapest way to go be? As far as lights? Do I need 6 cfls per plant or could I get away with 1 light per plant? Would the gro light tube for 9.99$ at walmart be enough?

People will tell you that you could use one light like that, it will work but you plants will be small, stretched, and not mass put on them. if you can afford it go with at least a 150 watt hps light, look on ebay for good deals. but always remember NEVER HAVE ANYTHING THAT HAS TO DO WITH GROWING SENT TO THE HOUSE YOUR GROWING AT.

ya i did a little research and found one for 81 bucks, but the hood on it was junk, my advise dude is that if you can splurge and get a 400 hps, growing is addictive and once you see the results you will want to grow more and more and eventually you will end up buying a bigger light anyways.

you definitely can use cfl's through a full grow but you have to make sure you have the right spectrums for each cycle. 5000-6500k blue spec for vegging and then 2700-3000k red spec for flowering. if you can get maybe 4 or 5 of each bulb you can definitely get some bud. won't be the biggest nugs but look around the cfl sub forum and you'll be amazed at the results that cfls can produce.
but like one of the guys above said, it is addicting and you'll just end up getting bigger and bigger lights the more you read and learn. but cfls are definitely good to learn on :leaf:

I have grown since 1972. Since the internet I have purchased untold near countless numbers of beans, lights, ferts and other grow related equipment and materials and all have been delivered to my home using my real name and no one has ever asked a single question about it let alone kicked in my door.
　
There is no reason to be overly paranoid.


Don't be a fool about it, just be cautious ... but you don't have to play Maxwell Smart or Secret Squirrel to get away with growing safely.

I could say the same pretty much. I've ordered a lot of stuff with my real name sending it right to my house without any problems.

yet..... but do you really wanna take a chance on that, you never know. most likely you won't have any problems but to be on the safe side if you can have it sent to a alternate address. just lookin out for you homie cause you never know when big brother is watching. p.s. I don't think that is being overly paranoid, just being cautious..

I've been growing for about 10 years and also never have been busted but i also never have had anything sent to my grow house. and about the never been busted statement "knock on wood" It all depends on the area and state your growing in, like cali they really don't have shit to worry about but you head east and we are more cautious about the SEVERE punishment we will receive for growing a plant (that can be used a medicine). Fucked up i know but who wants to sit in jail for growing a plant, a plant that could save this world from itself. But yet alcohol is legal!! WHATS WRONG WITH THAT PICTURE????? PROHIBITION STILL DOESN'T WORK!!!!!!!

I think my MANY years of doing what I have done, as have my MANY friends who have done the same for more or less the same period of time is evidence enough that many people today are overly paranoid.
　
For one the cozzers have priorities and budgetary constraints and the small grower hardly make it onto the very bottom of the list.

In most cases if a small grower gets cracked it is because they did something stupid, like told people about their grow or pissed off a girlfriend who then ratted them out or had a wild party that drew the cozzers who then found their grow or because they sold pot, maybe even out of the house they grew it in, and someone got busted and ratted them out to save their own neck and not because they had a pack or two of beans delivered to their homes … beans that passed through customs without any problem and would never have beeen looked at twice again or inspected in any way again before delivery.

Now if you want to be paranoid I have read messages about people being busted because cops watched parking lot surveillance videos and watched people going into and leaving hydro stores and then got their car type and in some cases license plates … so is buying in person really any safer?
　
As to using a different location to have things sent to, I have read many messages about the person someone had something sent to claiming it was never delivered to them .. so their pals may have ripped them off. Sure that’s not being busted but it is not good and you can’t run to the cops and complain. You’re just out the money.

The overwhelming majority of people who get busted get busted because they are morons who did something totally stupid and brought it on themselves, not just ordered some beans or ferts or a light or a fan.

So true. Like the Tennessee Pot Cave that was million dollar operation but they stole electricity off the grid.:wall:

I think that for the first time, overly paranoid grower, a CFL grow is ideal. My first indoor grow used a bathroom vanity light fixture that I bought at a thrift store for 3 dollars. I had 4-32watt bulbs, some schwagseed, half a bag of potting soil and after some LST work and maybe $30 invested I was smoking my own indoor grow. Then your hooked!

Everything I first started with came from either thrift stores or local hardware stores. No online ordering & no hydro shop.

There are numerous ways you can grow but how much you can spend and your growing conditions will limit what you should grow.

There are lot of cool people sharing DIY tips that will be nice to your wallet if you care to check it out here. And read the newbie-central section first. Most of your initial questions can be answered there.

Hey I agree with you guys, most of the time people get popped is because of shear stupidity, no doubt about that but I'm not willing to chance my freedom on it..
