how do my girls look? tryin to get some input on how they look for just about 1 week into flower. i got them under a 1000w hps, i try to gett it as close as possible to get some nice bushes with minimal stretching; as you can see. i am feeding them biobizz grow and bloom, and will soon be feeding them AN big bug aand later AN overdrive.the strains are the origonal brothers grim C99, grapfruit pheno (i think) and also TGA subcool`s plushberry kush and origonal skunk and kosher kush.

You are burning them.

26 inches min for 1000w HPS. Light damage is not heat damage.

Also with my current distance my temps during lights on at canopy level are anywhere from 75f-79f and at night 57-59 (20 degree drop) I know my temps at night run a little on the low side but from what I can see they seem fine with it.

Anyone else think their too close=light damage? I don't see any ill effects on the tops and I also know a few growes too who keep their lights at this level and much closer. I always thought that the main issue with the light being too close was the heat, unless your at like 10" away or so, like the HPS light chart states as being too close

I don't believe that. 10 inches for 1000w? Be my guest. I have water cooled, and I can burn them. So, I mean this as a warning. I don't say, what you should do. I pushed them like that. They grow. But, when they are mature at buds, they can be ruined.

I ruined 9 oz of WW, I had to extract it all. It could not be smoked. It looked fine, until I magnified it.
Note all those light ruined trichs. And I try avoid that heavy dark green. Over N, I think.

BTW, that last picture is the beginning of light burn with just CFL.

Do you see any of that edging yet?

This has nothing to do with heat.

See the attached chart for the BEST distance ....

Full sun is 10,000 foot candles, boys. Look on the chart and see, that is 25 inches. OK?

"Remember that the intensity that a plant can experience naturally would not be sustained for 14 hours, so don't necessarily expect to be able to put even a full sun plant in 10,000 foot-candles for 14 hours every day."

I'll chime in on this but I hate to go against the expert. More then 2 feet seems a bit excessive to me, but it is based on climate and setup to some extent. Heat problems for some do not equal heat problems for others. I keep my 1000 watt light about 16-18 inches from my tops and it's not been a problem. I have a powerful enough exhaust system that I disconnected my air cooling because it was making my room too cold. So different people have different problems with heat.

In the OP it looks like the plants are in the middle of a big space which is great for air and heat, the trade off is a lot of loss of light without side panels. I doubt heat will be much of a problem for this set up.

I think those plants look pretty damn healthy. Nice work.

I'm saying you can run them over sunlight power without any extra heat. And if sunlight is 10,000 fc, beyond that you are test piloting. It can be fine and it can ruin it. :)

A CFL at 250w is over sun power, foot candles, at 6 inches.

And stretch is a another aspect that is completely mis-understood. We don't want to mess with it, I say. Why "keep the stretch down?" We want it, I think.

This is a bract flower plant. And if you would look at these types of plants, hops, ginger, etc, they must stretch, to form the bract.

We are beginning to see a few pot gardens in movies. The always look the shit to me, with the lights down on them.

But, you do a search of large indoor grows, the lights are on the ceiling.

So many myths, did I work through and I am not trying to sell you on anything.

What your saying makes sense as I'll def take your advice and experience into consideration. I actually just raised the light to 24" and I'll keep it their for now and let the plants grow into them for awhile an see how it goes from their and adjust the light accordingly.

BTW just curious do you run a 1000w HPS at anytime during your grow? And if so where do you personally keep your light to pplant distance?

Yeah sure dude. First I wouldent start the bio-grow till week 3-4 and start at 1 ml per liter, But here's my feeding schedule dude. Follow this and you'll be all set bro.

The weeks start as week 1 of flowering and the amounts are per liters

Week 1
1ml per liter of bio grow
1 ml per liter bio bloom

Week 2
1 ml grow
2 ml bloom

Week 3
1 ml grow
3 ml bloom

Week 4
1 ml grow
3 ml bloom

Week 5
1 ml grow
3 ml bloom

Week 6
1 ml grow
4 ml bloom

Week 7
1ml grow
4 ml bloom

Week 8
1 ml grow
4 ml bloom

-------flush------

This is what I follow with aawesome results, And I am growing in fox farm's ocean forest too, but this chart can apply to really any medium.

If you got any more questions please let m know and good luck on your grow!

Forgot to mention I would follow the chart but when you seethe pistils (hairs) start to brown go ahead and bump up the bio grow to 2 ml per liter for the duration for the feeding
