I thought this story deserved an update.
The two dogs attacked 62-year-old restoration artist Francesco Bove.
Bove, a pit bull owner himself, underwent five hours of surgery Friday night.
They came to me, and I thought they were friendly but they jumped on me and I felt the bite,” he said. “I started to kick them off. I lost a big chunk of my arm. I could see it. I could see the bone.”
The dogs also ripped off most of his right ear, but all Bove saw was red. “My ear, I couldn’t see it, but there was blood everywhere,” the native of Isernia, Italy, said.
The dogs owner, Cynthia Oliver, 55, who has been arrested 37 times since 1987, was charged with eight counts of assault and reckless endangerment after the Friday night incident near her Belmont Avenue residence in the Bronx, investigators said. Oliver was released on $35,000 bond at her arraignment.
The dogs, who have attacked several other people and dogs in the past, are in the custody of animal control.
