I sprouted this from a seed its only 16 days old today. All organic!!

%40 african violet mix
%30 worm castings
%25 perlite
%5 GHBB pre-mix

For feeding i give it the Bio-bizz organic nutes as well as Alaska fish fertilizer. Im giving it 400w HPS since the moment it sprouted. Originally had it at 18/6 but going 20/4 now in order to hopefully mature it a little quicker. I got one of those soil moisture meter at home depot for like $10, owning one of these is a must for any soil grower, i would probably end up over watering without it!! This is my first grow and i would like to know how i could maybe increase the yield, any tips would help!!

Northendgrower... Your plant looks healthy & happy. To keep it that way, read on.
.
Your plant is a bit young to be feeding it right now. Skip feeding it for 7 to 10 days, so it can use some of the fertilizer present in the soil. This will help keep your soil from becoming toxic from over fertilization.
.
This will also help the rootball spread out. If you feed and water frequently, in the the first 6 weeks, the rootball will stay small - since it only grows out as far as necessary to obtain food & water. A small rootball, equals a small yield.
.
Also when you water, water on the outside rim of the pot, pouring slow & steady. This will prevent the gaps which occur between dry soil and the pot. Once the dirt swells against the inside of the pot, the water will not just run out. Plus it encourages, Mary to send roots all the way through the soil.
.
It's better to give your plant a good watering less frequently, rather than watering every day or every other day. I try to water once a week, if weather or dry conditions exsist - once every 4 days.
.
Hope this helps...
Keep it Real....Organic....

Heres a few more pics, i've read about the LST method and decided to try it out to increase yield. I'll keep posting more pics as each week goes by. Its getting big considering it only sprouted 20 days ago. Not even three full weeks yet.

Them's some happy plants!

First grow huh? You must have done your homework.

My first grow I just stuck some bag seed in miracle grow on the back deck. It's a miracle they grew. I didn't know about feeding, I just watered 'em when I remembered. We didn't have this newfangled interweb thingy back then so I didn't know any better. Well, it got me high anyway.

Want to increase yield? Grow more plants! Control temp and humidity, don't let mites get a foothold, don't overfeed or overwater.

Looks great. Start a grow journal. I'd like to follow this one.

+rep for a healthy start on your first grow

Its 5 weeks old now and starting to get bushy. The smaller plant was a back up in case the first one went male, but luckily its a girl and the other one looks female too so im gonna keep both. Although i have a tiny closet i just dont have the heart to toss out a nice stinky plant. Im wondering if it might be too tight of a spot for both plant cause its only gonna get bushier when flowering.

The second pic is of my closet. I just installed a 240 cfm odor scrubber. The warm stinky air is filtered and vented out from the top, cool fresh air flows in from the bottom.

Just started the flowering cycle 3 days ago. Picked up a UVB and also popped a couple of 40w cfls in there

There are many ways to increase yield. There are forms of positive stress to accomplish this. For instance, LST(low stress training), topping ( not for all strains ), FIMing ( basically topping but leaving about 20% of the top new growth), supercropping( pinching at growth nodes to distribute the growth hormone to various areas of the plant), CO2 implementation and molasses use at the third week of flowering. Hope this helps and good luck.

Its just bagseed, the pot it came from was pretty good so i kept the seeds and decided to plant it one day. I Lst'd it as it was growing resulting in loads of tops;-)
I also just got a 10.0 UVB cfl and tossed that in the room also, i gotta admit since i've had the UVB in there its getting a hell of a lot stinkier, maybe its doing what its supposed to? It is my first ever grow so i got noting to compare it to.

Also i looked at it today and near the bottom of the main stem there is a bit of white mold looking stuff, dont know how serious its going to be. The room is well ventilated, i have a 240cfm odor scrubber venting a room thats only 2x2x8 so there is constant air flow and the RH is lower than what it should be. I'll keep my eye on it and hopefully it doesnt spread too much. Anyone ever encounter mold like this? Should i do something about it or just leave it alone?

I gave it 1/4 tsp of purple maxx per gallon of water today. Im hoping with the UVB + purple maxx i'll have me one dank plant, but i guess only time will tell.
This plant is getting a hell of a lot bigger then i expected and its only on week 1 of flower, not sure if my little closet can handle all this growth. But i guess i can't complain!!
