Checking on babies during dark cycle

Hey all,

I was wondering if there is a safe way to look at your plants during the dark cycle?

I've been away for 3 days and have to leave again before the lights come back on and I just want to check to make sure everything is ok before I leave..

Or would it be better for me just to wait til the light cycle tomorrow when I will be home??

Use a green colored bulb, I don't think that will interrupt the photoperiod.

Where do they sell green lightbulbs and what are they usually used for (just so I know where to look.)

upon entering make sure your ambience is black, I mean pitch. Hang a large black curtain or such within the light range outside your room. Your going to need a green light bulb somewhere in your room or you can use a troublelight with the green bulb. These can be bought at a hardware store or anywhere that sells lighting I would think. As long as the plants never see natural light or any light other than the dim green or candlelight, etc, you will be fine :)

p.s. I just use a dark blanket to block the natural light coming from the hallway in front of my room, then I just use a bic lighter to have a quick look at stuff like RH, temps, etc.

Check Walmart, Plant Nurseries, etc. Probably Home Depot and Lowe's too.

I don't know... I don't worry about it too much. I've had to turn the light on in my room occasionally (the overhead incandescent, not the HPS) and I've never had any problems - at all. I mean, the plants out in the wild - when they get headlights of a passing car on them, do they go crazy and forget that they were making flowers? Nope. The key here, like with most things in life, is moderation. Be quick, and don't do it often.

Yeah that's what my gut tells me, I mean no plant has 12 hours of COMPLETE darkness... I'm pretty paranoid though so I want to make sure everything is 100%

If this is true though it would save me the trip :D

ITS NOT GONNA HERM YOUR SHIT

If your shit herms, its fucking genetics. Also, if your trying to herm something, you need a CONSTANT light source.

Ever hear of a light leak? thats a constant source of light being introduced into an area. NOT 10 secs, or mins of your lights going on.

Ive been growing for xx years, and never in my history have i EVER, EVER, EVER seen an adverse effect from working on my area after dark hours.

THE INTERNET IS A GREAT SOURCE OF INFORMATION

However, its also the best source of bullshit information that originated from people who either are too PARANOID or talk out their ass without any actual knowledge or experience because this is the internet and people have free speech.

No matter if you have 24w of CFL, or 10kw of HPS/MH running your operation the rules of growing cannabis as a plant remain exactly the same.

Haha after this 'inspirational' speech I just checked on them... only took me like 15 seconds with the incandescent above the tent to check the temp and see how they looked (which everything is fine.)

It comes down to relativity. The daytime sun is sooooooo much brighter than the moon or street lamps or passing headlights that its not enough to cause the plant to think its time to wake up. Whereas a plant growing in a human controlled environment with TOTAL darkness during the sleep cycle will be much more susceptible to light stress.

I still don't buy it. Like I said, I don't worry about it and have had no problems. Last time around, I went into my room a minute or two before the lights were going to come on, and knowing they were about to come on anyway, I switched on the overhead light to do something. The main lights flipped on while I was working, and when I was done I left - forgetting that I had turned the overhead light on. 5 or 6 hours into the next dark period I caught the fact that the overhead light was left on all this time. That was the middle of flowering. Guess what happened... nothing. They went on about their business.

Thanks alot man i appreciate it. I come across as a dickhead to alot of people because i curse and seem like an asshole but truely my intentions are nothing but good.

The internet is full of BULLSHIT.

so i figure i need to be as Blatant and loud and boisterous as possible when it comes to the true hard facts.
