chiller or not?

Do I need a water chiller?

So I run a 4 bucket DWC system and I love it. I'm new to DWC and I'm still learning new things about in. my question is simple; do I need a water chiller if my room is at 75 degrees? It'd be no problem for me to get one if they weren't so expensive so my budget has forced me to ask questions.

Insulate your buckets, monitor your temps...Don't want that water getting much above 70*...If the water stays cool enough, you don't need a chiller.

I don't even monitor my dwc bucket temps or insulate them. I change them every two weeks and never add to them, the key is running bennificial bacteria like pondzyme and hydroguard.

This is how I keep cool. Adding 3 bottles of frozen water in rotation. Recirculating water. Fan. serious air pump and airstones and the airpump is outside the grow tent. The chilled res is going outside too. This is an old photo.IMG_1288.JPG IMG_1287.JPG

h202 I use only if I need o treat a very bad root problem, but I never let it get that far. Otherwise no H202! Water and nutes, not very strong, basic supplents, and I mean basic.

Im on my first DWC grow. We have very high temps on my place. My room temp with the lights on is 77-80f and my water temps are at 79-83f.

Im on my last week and flushing at the moment. This is a 9 week flowering strain and I was able to escape this grow problem free. :crosses fingers:

Its a closet grow so I cant fit chillers. I only use SM90 with my base nutes and Protekt. I do have a big ass airpump. Kinda overkill for my 5 gallon DWC.

I just try to keep everything sterile all the time. Its not optimal, but its doable.

not too huge of a problem if you have good DO (dissolved oxygen) level. but the cooler the better.

h2o2, may want to be careful with that stuff. i've burned my bare hands with it, so imagine what it can do to beneficial bacteria.

Never have water temp problems outside of a freak 103F day (happened 2 years ago, I live in Western WA. WTF!) I also find that once your girl is big enough her fan leaves do a pretty good job of keeping you reservoir cool. Another good call would be keep your air pump outside of the grow area so it blows in cooler air.
