I don't now about that but I do have to watch when I sit down. The water can be cold and deep.

I'm not one to try and disagree with others and their ways, But would it not be just cheaper to go out and buy a PUR water filter system that attaches to you kitchen sink? Some meters for checking chlorine can be a bit pricey from what I have seen.

I use a Pur water fliter system like mentioned above, and it eliminates all chlorine and other bad crap as it's being filtered. And initial cost is only $30 and it lasts a long time. Replacement fliters are very cheap.

Any way each to their own ways and good luck!

I'm not opposed to the Pur idea. Do you guys still let the water sit for 24 hours after? I don't think charcoal filtering removes the chlorine. But for that matter, I've never understood exactly why plants wouldn't like chlorine.

I've also heard people use the logic that you shouldn't use cold water and that by allowing the water to sit for 24hours it warms up. That makes some sense to me but plants have cold storms come out and water them on hot days.

I paid for the Culligan for two reasons.

a) I didn't have any large 5 gallon containers to use to sit water out over 24 hours. So even if I never buy the water again, it was useful to buy the containers.
b) I've seem some people mention that I should do something with my water and I was already running low. I figured carbon filtered and reverse distilled was better than nothing.

I tried using a PUR water system it and didn't work at all for me. RO water forever!!

Good banter, and info, but, for my plants, either good ol' rain water or distilled water. Even the fish in the aquarium love the rain water!

IT doesn't rain in michigan for quite a while and it takes 10" of snow to get an inch of water. Some how this doesn't seem viable.

I'm not sure how much i would trust the rain water. There are so many pollutants in the air and water sources that rain cant be healthy for your plants.

Yes, San Diego's water is high in dissolved solids, but the hardness factor is not high, so it's not a problem for me. No one here even uses the hard water micro. If it was hard water, a good grower can make adjustments.

So you have to get your meter calibrated, huh? I have 3 monitors in use, and I calibrate them regularly. When you're older, you'll be able to do it yourself, too.

Hey Im also using vinegar, if there is something better, and natural I can use thats better, I'd love to know!!

I need to know exactly what, not just something like nitric acid.. I have no idea what that is, or how to find it..
Just what its found in that I can use Like lemon juice or something common, that can be added to my water...

My only other option is using pH down used in fish tanks.. Which Im not really sure if its ok or not to use

i use purified water out of a culigan water dispencer as you would see in a doctor's office . i drink alot of water lol, but im using it for my plant and it seenms to be working pretty good, it' about 2nhalf inches high right now after about 4 day's after sprouting , should i worry about th ph in that water i mean it is purified, im just lookin for a quality answer. i really don't wanna use tap water idk,any suggestion's?

whats with all the fucking about, get the water mix it with your nutes and feed the fuckers, all this leave it to stand for a day, you think you were getting the water out of a used toilet or somethin

I'm know I'm a newbie but I figure I'd chime in. I use the PUR kitchen sink faucet system. It's been working great. Maybe too good???

What I don't understand is why do you want 0 PPM water? Aren't some of the TDS necessary for plants? Why take your water all the way to 0 then back up with supplements like MagiCal? Most RO users have calcium/magnesium deficiency problems and have to supplement. I've noticed these problems useing the PUR system. Now I have to supplement with MagiCal.

There are two types of filters for your PUR system. 1 stage and 2 stage. The difference is the 2 stage adds minerals "for taste". But that might just be a gimmick. I've checked my water with a TDS metter on both types of filters and they both read around 150ppm or under. So I dont know how much more minerals the 2 stage filter adds.

I personally wouldn't use rain water. I live in an industrial area with a lot of pollutants and smog in the air. I don't care if it kills my plants...I just don't want to be consuming any heavy metals.

Finally...the PUR system does remove chlorine...says so right on the box. But I've used chlorinated tap water to rinse my plant's roots....and had no problems. Figure the chlorine will kill anything that might give me problems. I know my mother...and many other home gardeners use water right out the hose. So is chlorine and TDS issues for hydo growers only???

Can i use bottled water?

I bought two 5-gallon water jugs from my local grocery store and that works pretty well. I've currently got 6 plants in veg so each jug lasts for about 6 days giving the second jug a full 6 days to offgas the chlorine.

Even if you used an entire 5 gallons each watering you'd still have 3 full days between waterings.

i use tap water at about 320ppm and it works fine

I know its been awhile since anyone posted on this, to clear this up, chlorine is used in pools to prevent plants and other things from growing, why the hell would you water your plants with it?
