Quick update no pics
I just went in to water and check for any other males. Had to pull maybe my strongest white widow. But the good news is that was it. All other plants are female. So that leaves me with 2 super lemon haze, 2 white widows, 1 AK48, and 3 ice. Total of 8 sexy ladies. I've got another 600w hps coming sometime this week to really help boost happiness.

I've got a question just in case anybody but me and the crickets are in here- how long do you have to grow the males before you can collect the pollen from them? Id love to store some of this widow for later to make some seeds but have zero experience with that. In the meantime ill search around, but if anybody happens to stop by that knows, let me know.

Well I got my other 600w in and set up. The cooltube was broken when it arrived so I just used an old spare hood I had. I also picked up the growbright 6" inline fan. I gotta say, holy shit this things not messing around. Way bigger than I was planning for (not a bad thing) and that sucker moves some air. This whole setup is really better than I had imagined a few months back.

Also, I've got the male widow set up in a different part of the house. Not a bad setup at all for an on the spot room. I've got bags and other collecting methods set up waiting for the pollen. It's always fun trying something new.

I've lost all interest in this journal, but I figured I might as well finish what I started. If not to learn and possibly teach what else is the point of a journal? Oh well

Updated shots taken yesterday-

IMAG0063.jpg IMAG0064.jpg IMAG0065.jpg

One of the SLH and WW shot up so fast and hit the top of the tent. I had to hang some weight on each to sort of lst them back into the light. I wonder if this would have any effect on the end result of the main cola... kind of like having a bunch of bends in the exhaust line hinders air flow.

This is my male I'm collecting pollen from. Initially I had it upright with little baggies everywhere trying to catch the falling pollen but it wasn't working great. It was a pain in the ass trying to get them set and the little amount each would catch would get static cling and get stuck in them. I put a layer of wax paper down and layed the plant down on his side.

IMAG0071.jpg IMAG0072.jpg IMAG0073.jpg

I wonder if the light is degrading the pollen that has already fallen down? I should probably go find a container and start collecting every other day or so

Turns out my house smells. I don't notice because I've never used my filter so I guess I just got used to the gradual increase of the smell. I had some people in the know come by and that's the first thing they said. Makes me wonder what the other couple people thought when they stopped by before.. oh well.

I kind of lost track of time and just realized im late in flower. This is day 67-ish of flowering. I had a long vacaion and it went quick.
So I have 3 ice and 1 ak48 that are supposed to be due. I just fed them full strength nutes a couple days ago. :dunce:

This is the one I took the pics of the trichs

I think the first is the ak48 im not sure. Its a like a maze from bottom to top and kind of crowded.

This is a white widow. It has a real dark purple color to it. Its hard to tell because the camera kept doing some auto adjust the whole time. Its in the background of the first pic after the trichs. It makes it almost look red.

I went in and tried to get a couple better shots of the purple white widow. Its was tough trying to hold the cfl lights in one hand and try to maneuver the camera with the other. Also, I cant ever get any shots farther away because it is pretty packed in there. I either need to make a bigger tent or cut back on the number of plants.

I put a couple mature clones in there a couple weeks ago. I haven't really said much about them because... well it went better than expected. But turns out one of the clones I grew out was a male. :dunce:

Im not sure how that happened, I had/have everything labeled and wrote down what each was once they started showing sex and scrapped all the clones that came from the males. This one seemed to slip by somehow. Oh well, I just yanked it and replaced it with another full grown clone that was just begging for the space.

Ok ok - one at a time. Let me first answer everybody before we get to the much anticipated update.

That was easy

Now on to the updates:

Turns out the area outside my house smelled with no filter hooked up. I got a tip from a buddy saying he walked his dog by and could smell it. So I finally put the filter inline and took care of that. Not sure why I didn't just do that a while ago. I'll try to edit in some pics later. They never load right while I'm at work.

Also I've chopped 4 plants down. 2 ice, the AK48, and a white widow. I pull them and leave them in darkness for a couple days; then chop. I really haven't noticed a difference doing this but I feel that any benefits would be small and hard to see anyway. Then Ive been staggering the chop so I only have one at a time. Also, I've been replacing each plant with a ready clone. Mostly white widow with an AK48. Going to try breeding this time around too.

I tried to make budder with the trim and some buds from the first ice harvest. I used phreakygoat's crock pot method and it didn't pan out. I don't know if 1 plant to 3 sticks of butter is just too low ratio or what. So I have 3 plants worth of real sugary trim plus a lot more bud ground up I'm going to try to make oil with. If this doesn't turn out ill give up cooking and just go for some hash.

Anyway, pics are what everybody wants so ill try to get those put in soon. That or see you in another month, either or. Curing is going well and I've got a lot of buds to smoke

Bored at work...
Phone won't let me upload any pics...

--Tips I learned from the last cycle--

1) its not worth crowding in a couple extra plants in your room/tent just because you have them. The overall weight result imo would have been the same with 6 plants that can breathe. Crowding only keeps potential for mildew and is generally a huge pain in the ass while trying to work in there.

2)I would benefit more taking a light out and building another veg tent. Also, this freezer box gets crowded very fast and I would benefit from another veg room. Maybe clones only in that bad boy.

3)once my harvests started rolling in, I started getting lazy. So maybe perpetual isn't for me; I should just grow a bunch and then grow more when I get low. Nope, that wouldn't help the dirty ass house that I've been neglecting too. Lesson 3- don't be a lazy dummy. Might have to smoke after all the work is done as opposed to right after I get home from work. Laziness breeds unhappy plants and unhappy home.

4) always keep extra supplies. Extra soil will get used throughout the grows and backup bulbs can literally be a life saver.

5) don't use my city water. It's gnarly stuff and kills life. Started using it the end of this crop. That is kind of what I meant by lazy. I stopped going out all the time to buy water gallons. Too busy smoking out and not going in public.

I've got more pics from this 'first' crop. Sparkley SLH buds and whatnot. I'll try to put them up soon (not sure why)

Oh yeah, built a dwc cloner yesterday. Again, ill have to edit pics in later I guess. Anywho, I've been tossing around the idea to do a complete switch to DWC just because I dislike hauling the dirt. Plus, every time I hit the grow shop they are out. And too many nosey neighbors watching me carry in bags of soil for no good reason.

There's a lot of hydro plans going thru my head. My plan was to finish out this crop and then tear down and rebuild, but now I think ill just slowly convert stuff over to dwc buckets. Just have to make sure I can make a successful grow with them first. I do need to redo my rooms/tents tho. That's basically where I'm at. Need to see how these first dwc clones work out.

Edit: BTW, that purple widow must be a phenotype. I made one clone from it a while ago (flowering now) and its purple as well. I've got a bunch of clones right now, but I didn't label any of them (the lazy thing) but they are definitely from a widow or an AK48. I figure the flowering times and smoke will tell me later.

Nice journal Chomps...I enjoyed it. I would be interested in following your conversion if you decide to go to hydro. +rep

Thank you. I was done with this but I can put up random photos/tips I learn along the way.. Thanks for the interest.

These shots just for you taken 10/15 minutes ago..

Getting a lot of new root growth now since I changed out the water. I believe I had too much clonex in there, burnt the tips a bit. (eyeballed my measurements) I wish I would've went with 3" nets already though. Next time Ill try a couple with hydroton only and a couple with nothing just to see how each works. I don't recommend smashing in a rockwool cube in the 2" net even though it seems to have worked. DWC plans brewing in my head tho.. apparently going to need something in the near future.

another update

Today I decided to feed and move. Things not going too bad as this is my first shot at anything hydro.

IMAG0458.jpg IMAG0459.jpg

I can already tell they are going to blow up if I do things right.

(I had to cut away the 2" net and peel it from the roots while 'transplanting'. It made me cringe at times when I had to just rip through a couple few. I can definitely see the benefits of just using the collar to hold the cutting with no rockwool. Def try that next go around)

Very nice.... looks like things are working out for you. Nice and healthy :-)

I think I will have to give it a try just to say I did. There seems to be a more complex flavor to soil grown bud... for my taste anyway...but this looks like it could be fun to at least try :-)

EVERYTHING IS DEAD!

-sike-
@momapug (like anyone else is here) Yeah I'm just trying this to do something new and see how it works/what the end product is like. I think I like both (soil & hydro) so far and actually think I will stick with both for now. There are advantages to each style. Cloning will be with dwc from now on tho, no doubt.

These are all the 'same' clones taken at the same time, from the same mom. Dirt and dome always worked for me but I think I found something better... all part of trying new things
