Chopping back a huge mother?

Any tips on how to cut back a huge plant? She's using 5 by 5 feet of space in my veg tent. It's been properly trained, supercropped... SLH, over a year old and she wants to be a bush now! My question is can I just cut a foot off the top, keep in mind she's going into flower in 9 weeks??

I noticed that when I did this that it would be wiser for me to make sure the pot is on the dry side and not just watered as the sever topping slows the uptake of water alot and you dont want your roots being wet like that in case root rot wants to appear. or when I take cuts, this scenario concerns me sometimes
