People go out of their way to hold a door open for someone, sht like that. That's the part I like.
I do that all year round and I'm an atheist. ;-) I like xmas if for no other reason than I get time off work to go and visit relatives and give gifts to people I love.

It is over commercialized though, I should know I worked in retail for 7 years, I've made it through 4 black fridays :-(. If you ever want to see how greedy and insane people are, just go work for WAL*MART during the holidays. I can tell you some stories.

Maybe it would be a Christian scheme if businesses tried to sell things in an attempt to convince you that it was for Jesus. They don't do that though....

Oh man...a couple years ago I went out on black friday...hit the nutjob walmart when they opened...then over to target that opened an hour later...I was one of the first ones to target from the flood of people who came from walmart(I rushed through walmart and was checked out within 10mins of getting into the store)...

So I had nothing specific to get at target..i was just bored...I was probably the 30th person in line or something...so they open the doors...the mad rush goes on as people flood in...I step off to the side of people and start handing out carts to them until they are all gone in the first minute...then walk over to the starbucks and get a coffee...sat down and just watched the pandemonium :D

didnt read the whole thread, so maybe someone said this before.

christmas was originally a "heathen" tradition, named "the festival of the light" it was to celebrate the death and rebirth of the light. (winter/summer kinda thing)

basically it was an excuse to get drunk and eat alot in the darkest part of the year (to make up for the dark and cold with a huge party)

the catholic church (roman empire..) stole this along with some other stuff.

or to be correct incorporated this into christianity to make converting people easier (the festival of light was a huge thing and would have been difficult to erase)

easter was originally the festival of fertility. the rabbit being a well know symbol for fertility.

(thats the reason for the eggs also)
