A random person was arguing that pot causes chronic psychosis and where else would the name "chronic" come from?
I see some truth to this, but only if you over do it. I've got into some bad cycles, sometimes finding myself smoking an ounce a week, 1-2 bowls at a time. In cycles like these, I don't really get that high, at all.
However, I do have a loss of motivation to do anything productive, as being stoned makes one complacent. Then when I come down I feel like shit so I smoke more. Now most of you probably say this isn't so bad, but it really is.
I can see pot being a cause of chronic psychosis but only for heavy users, because the state of being high is essentially psychosis.
But, as for pot causing chronic pyschosis even after being sober, I don't believe this could happen without the smoker being a very heavy user with NO social life and NO self production or feeling of importance. These two things are essential to our happiness, but are often difficult to do while stoned.
As bob said, the herb reveals you to yourself. and it does. when im stoned (especially in public scenarios with slight paranoia), its very easy to see my flaws.
so for me personally, i use to pot to ease my analytical mind in times when I don't want to be analytical, except im still able to see obvious flaws about myself. so in a sense, pot helps me see things about myself i couldnt or maybe just didn't want to see before. it helps speed up the process of maturity and self therapy.
i don't generally use pot around other people, except a couple stoner buddies.
alcohol is a social lubricant, but pot however is the exact opposite (it causes a lack of attention and desire to even invest into conversations), so i don't use it when im going to be around sober people.
Psychosis is never chronic unless you reach schizophrenia.
I hate stupid arguements for not legalizing pot like it causes chronic psychosis, or the one about America becoming a bunch of lazy asses who don't do anything. maybe for people who have no self control, but then again that person is probably already a heavy alcoholic.
If pot were legalized it would have to be legal to grow your own, or like someone intelligent on RIU said earlier the black market will continue to thrive as people will still grow underground pot and sell it for cheaper than stores (or the government) would.
If pot is ever legal, it needs to be free for all, or underground trade will remain.
Anyways,
What say you guys? Have you ever experienced signs of pyschosis after heavy long term pot use? How often do you prefer to smoke? When? What do you prefer to be doing when you are high?
