Good question! I just got done Googling, and still haven't found anything aside from studies and debates. Crohn's causes severe inflammation and spasms, so I'd go with strains that are recommended for, say, MS and other spasm-related conditions. https://www.rollitup.org/general-marijuana-growing/196719-strain-guide-most-famous-srtains-3.html#post2771942 has a pretty good run-down of many well-known strains and what conditions for which they've been known to be recommended (or at least according to breeders! lol), but I've used this post more as just something to check into several strains at once RE: growth, etc., than what "ailment" each strain may help. (Example: these strain blurbs keep referring to MS as a "seizure-related" condition, when actually a spasm-related condition would be much more accurate.)

When all is said and done, it's also of course a very subjective thing. I doubt any strain would not help relieve Crohn's, between the spasms and nausea/vomitting and loss of appetite and inflammation and joint pain and... yeah, you get the picture!

IBD (currently undiagnosed, but Crohn's runs rampid in my family, and the docs believe I have it too so they test me for it yearly) is only one of my several problems/illnesses. I've found that, for me at least, sativas and indicas help equally. I mostly try to stick with sativas when I want to be more awake/alert, and indicas when I want/need to sleep or get deeper rest.

My advice from personal experience would be to just start using MMJ, whatever strains are appealing and/or available at the time, and then work toward narrowing it down to what seems to help the most as well as which ones are simply most preferable. For instance, I started growing White Widow (first one's ready to harvest in one to two weeks) because it's reported to be easy to grow (and so far this has been very true!), as well as very potent which means I'll use less. Others on RIU have told me that WW has indeed been a tremendous help for their pain, and that you practically have to "try" to kill it. My first harvest was Blue Hash (by Dinafem; found on Attitude's site), an indica dominant that's been very easy to grow, sweet, smooth (not one cough yet!), and potent enough to get me to sleep which isn't an easy thing to do. ;) It's the only indica I've grown so far, but I'm quite happy with it, so I'm not going to bother purchasing more indica seeds till I'm doing better financially than I have been the last few months. I only had one seed for her, so I've kept clones going; I just harvested my second one last week, there's another one flowering now, a clone vegging, and the cycle will continue indefinitely. When I do get around to trying another indica, I'm thinking Afghan at this time, or perhaps White Rhino (White Widow X Afghani). Though of course reading what growers here prefer, and why, helps when trying to choose from the seemingly thousands of strains out there. ;)

Wish there was a definitive answer for you. From what I've seen so far, it's a trial and error thing at this point when deciding which strain to use for which ailment. If it's a good quality bud, it should help. Period. :D
