The cicada's were a nice addition to the outdoors this year or so I thought.
Lots of mystery holes in the ground followed by the emerging and discarded shells as they underwent that amazing transformation to there flying self.
My dogs have been outside non stop searching to crunch and munch on them. Only yesterday was one of them successful enough to actually gorge enough to lead to vomiting. Oh that was very interesting too, lots of wings, legs, heads.. blah..
The outside buzzing has been nice, loud and in sync. Comes and goes. At times it is so loud you can't hear that little person in your head that has so much to say.
Then they started peeing nonstop. Everytime I am outside i wonder if its going to rain but no its just cicada pee from the masses gathered in my trees.
Now comes the time for them to lay there eggs. This is when my feelings turn against them as I realize they are much enjoying the many trees I have been working on over the past 5 years. LIKE ALL OF THEM. I have delicately pruned, watched after and shaped these trees over the years. Make no mistake, they are every bit wild as well.
The story isn't over, soon there dead bodies will cover the ground as they die off and that will make for some great chicken feed. I will add them to the compost and probably try making a cicada tea for the garden too.
Then the eggs will hatch and the evidence of my trees branches littering the ground will be in full effect. I know the trees won't die. This however might be the saddest thing to happen in the last 3 years.
thanks for listening. AND bonus points if you want to identify the tree/plant in the picture. I have tons more.
