Cleaning up Veg plants for bloom.

Hey everybody. So my question is how trimmed up do you keep your plants before you switch them to bloom? Referring mostly towards inner leaf growth and that sort of thing. I've been pretty lazy in the past, basically just trimming off the mostly dead leaves that want to fall off and basically just letting whatever else that wanted to try to grow, to grow. I kinda like having the extra hash making material around too from underdeveloped inner growth. But I love to read suggestions so lets hear them! I'll post a picture of one of the plants I'm considering trimming up - hopefully to someone else's suggestions.

depends on the plant

if its a long sativa that i know is going to stretch and leave the bottom third of the plant in the dark, then i will pretty much trim off all of the bottom third of the plant through the stretch period. branches, fan leaves, etc. - anything that wont make it up to the canopy w/ decent support.

i dont really worry about inside fan leaves (defoliation) until after stretch. i'll do it in 3 - 4 sessions in between feedings. starting by taking off the top inside fan leaves and then work down and out in sections a week or two apart depending on how long the strain takes to ripen up.

Hey again. This is the plant I've set aside to really trim up to compare to my non-trimmed counterparts. It's Lemon Frost. So it sounds like you don't start trimming until after you've put it into the bloom room -makisupa? Ever have to worry about stressing/stunting during that time?

Edit: Sorry for the lame pictures, just cellphone shots. If needed I could take better ones with an actual camera. ^^

i've never worried about stunting from trimming, but i think it could vary by plant, and i approach each strain differently. short stocky indicas i wouldnt worry too much about but long stretchy sativas i will definitely trim up.

i usually clean up the bottom third or so of the plant just before or at the time of flipping to 12/12. let them stretch for a week and see whats likely not going to make it to the canopy and start cleaning that stuff up. leave anything you think might make it to the top and check on it in a few days and clean up what you need to a second time at that point. give it another week and do the same. after the first 2 weeks of 12/12 while theyre stretching you should try to take off anything that will flower but that you wont want to keep/use. after that point i try to only take off fan leaves to open up the inside to more light. i typically dont start this until 4 weeks or so into flower.

of course this is just my way. plenty of people post that they never trim anything. everyone does it differently...
