Clipping the tips off of fan leaves....good for the plant or myth

I see some people clip off the tips of the fan leaves and explain it directs energy towards upward grow and increases air flow.

My last grow I did this to one of my plants and these leaves were the first ones to turn yellow the second half of flowering.

So.....is it true that doing so helps, or in the end does it hurt the plant?

I see no point. Id leave them alone. Get ur trimming , lolipopping , whatever done 2 weeks before flowering and leave them alone.

It's only useful when cloning as it directs more energy toward root development. I've never seen nor heard of anyone cutting the tips off while it's vegging. The plant would stop growing upward until it replaced those damaged fan leaves.

Exactly what joseywales said. Only ever clip fan leaf tips during cloning, to reduce the area of transpiration of the leaf. Helps prevent moisture loss and allows the cutting to survive long enough to root easier.

There is no science that suggests cutting fan leaves directs energy toward upward growth. None whatsoever.

I've watched "how to" videos showing and explaining what I described. It just goes to show you how much wrong information is out there.

Yea It doesn't seem like it would do anything good for the plant at all. TBH Leaving leaves whole on a cutting isnt really bad if you keep the humidity up and keep it watered. Cutting the leaves in half on a cutting leaves openings where water can escape as well and that need to be healed which spends the little energy the cutting had. ALSO, I wouldnt recommend cutting your growing plants when you dont have to because you leave open wounds through which infections can enter and ruin ur plants. Bad idea imo. not to mention it is stressing on a plant to have wounds, and oyu want to keep the plant as unstressed as possible.
