clone from a topping?

I prefer tops over branches. They all root the same but the structure can be lost using a branch on some strains. I have a holy grail that was a branch so now every plant looks like Charley browns Christmas tree

What is the best cloning powder? I tried to clone a top I cut and it never took. Not sure what I did wrong. Probably alot. That was the first time I tried

Ive always found top cuttings to root a little faster, not sure why but if you cut from the top strip off the bottom leaves from that cutting...so a cutting is about 6" and you'll remove the bottom 3" or so of leaves.
Also I only ever used an aerocloner which u can make if ur even a little handy,,,see youtube vids for some help with that. also in an aerocloner don't use rooting gels or powders...theey clog the manifold and the cutting makes its own hormone anyway...evefr see how some ppl will put a cutting of something into water? same thing.

Or I could take clone tops fro my stretched out younger ones, would that be better?
How do you plant to root the cut?
I too love my bubblecloner, but with that you need a bit of stem vs. just sticking it in a rapid rooter plug or rockwool cube.
Dannyboy bout gave you the rundown with solid advice already though.

That's how I take cuttings on everything, plain water. I have a willow tree that I cut a little new growth on to make a tea for stubborn plants.

X2 on raising the light.
Sounds like you have a nice Indica heavy strain.

I think its a combo of mostly indica properties and the fact that I've kept cfls within 1-2 inches from it its whole life. I dont wanna stretch it if not neccesary and I have five younger plants that are stretched pretty good as a result of bein further away from higher powered cfls.

Idk

yet, I got some rooting powder and organic pro potting mix with some bacto ahit lol. But I don't have a plan yet other than I wanna be able to sustain a sog once I discover the females

Bacto is a good base. Its inert though. Green houses use it for sprouting seedlings and for hanging pots.

Its a great base for a super soil with something to hold water.

If not, treat it like coco but a little slower drying. If it does completely dry out its a pain to get wet again.

Stretch is not permanent. It slows back to it was when you lower the lights.

I notice it in guerilla plants I grow. They stretch to get above plants and then tighten up.

so where I take the cutting from will double branch like a normal top still right? Kill two birds with one stone?

that's great but don't forget to aerate the water bc plants take in O2 from their roots. They'll grow better if you do.
Not for a cutting. It won't need an airstone until later.

I got vines growing in a bookshelf with nothing strip LEDs and in water. No air.

It will speed the rooting process and improve success rate a little bit.

I can get well over 50% and some run 80% on clones in plain water with no air. When they hit the point of needing air, I transplant.

H20 exanges air even sitting still. I've heard people claim you have to have air stones if storing water for your plants. It exchanges enough on its own as long as its not sealed.
