clone genetics, lost quality?

Ok so i have heard from older growers that clones lose quality the more they are cloned, like you cannot clone a clone then clone that clone and so on, is that true? It seems to me that all clones are an extension of the original mother, but i don't know. My mother plant just died and i'm going to clone the first generation ones off of her. Has anyone heard of this problem?

thanks

i've read in two different books...
one said yes 50% of mother's quality
other said no loss at all

i figure there is a small amount but if you notice loss of quality(i doubt you will) then u can order more seeds.

If the genetics are the same why would it make a difference? I don't see how a clone would be any different from the parent. I am no scientist but to me it makes no sense.
