Clone in water cup (is it root or mold)?

I’ve gone for bleach because it’s what I had to hand. Reckon I should cut the cut again above the white looking stuff ? I’ll post a picture in the morning and see how good a job the bleach done and change cups again
just dont overthink it man. too much can be
well too much. just drip a drop of bleach per ltr of water or so. you dont need much. h202 is more forgiving you can add alot and it wont hinder you.
id only remove it if its mushy. if its still hard then its ok
also the bottom of ur cut looks like you cut it with saftey scissors. try to use a fresh clean razor blade and make the cut on a 45° angle just below a node next time. nodes will produce roots faster
if you add h202 it also keeps oxygen in the water

I don't ph the water and it's been about 10+ days and just now got a tiny little root from this one.

here is how we looking after a night in the bleach water. The white stuff has been reduced but still present. I’ll try to persevere with this cut as it’s rooting already (unless you reckon I should cut it off and start again above the white stuff if it’s going to course long term issue) I’ll try to find some hydrogen peroxide today to use instead and yeah I did use safety scissors lol thank you I’ll use your technique in future

If the stem is still firm I wouldn't recut it, the basal formation will have started you'll cut it off and it will need to form again.
Ime 9/13 days for roots normally but it can take longer depending on the environment.

Your clone is still upright and green (looking good) rooting is only a matter of time.

Thanks dude. It looks much better in its fresh water too there is even less of the ‘white stuff’ I was just concerned what this white stuff was and that potentially when I plant it into soil it was going to go all horrible and moldy. Very keen to keep this plants genetics alive.
Might go take a few more cuts it’s only been switched to 12/12 for a couple days.

ya not a bad idea always take extra cuts then keep the first rooters. just use the h202 and youll b fine.

Dont throw it away, ride it out and just learn from it. Change water use bleach slowly eventually you will win.
I have had this whatever it is grow on seeds, seeds sprout put in peat it grew in the peat in humidity dome lol I plant and ofcourse by then the plant is lost somewhere and cant keep track but I just assume the benes killed whatever it was double with changing the extremely wet enviorment to soil.

thanks dude just an update for everyone or anyone that see's this thread in future with same problem.
The bleach done a good job removing the build up of 'white stuff' on the stem. I've now got some H202 which I've put a few drops in each bottle (500ml bottles) and no white stuff has returned / grown on the new cuttings i've taken.

they look good health wise nice and green and perky on my kitchen window ceil. some roots are beginning to show at the bottom just about. by the time my current run is done these should be ready to replace them :)
