well, I took a clone of a plant outside my friend's house (growing between the sidewalk and the apt building, seed fell out of his window into the crack)....

I dipped the stem in water, then dipped it in rooting hormone, and then proceeded to put the cutting into a peat pot of moist soil. I then put it on a heating pad and under a 4500K 13W compact fluorescent for clone lighting....

after a week or so, the leaves began to droop....then they started becoming discolored, and shriveling a little....

what am I doing wrong? any ideas?

ummmm many ideas

did you dip it in the rooting hormone IMMEDIATELY after cutting the clone?

i think you should get rid of the heating pad

create a humidity dome

what fertilizer you using? organic? miracle grow? bigoltitties?

it was maybe a minute or so.....not more than that....when I cut the branch, I immediately put it in water....took it home, and proceeded the rest of the way....

I turned the heating pad off....but I'm limited when it comes to money and resources...

Keep the heating pad, it still may be useful. Just make sure its not TOO hot. Some heat promotes root growth.

But you definetly need a humidity dome. Clones need 90%+ humidity to survive the first week or so.

Also, your bulb is the wrong color spectrum. You said its 4500k? You need 6500k color temp, and get a higher wattage while you're at it.

Get the humidity dome (just make ur own for cheap) and the right spectrum of light quickly and you'll be okay. Bear in mind that that fan leaf is pretty big and will be using much of the limited energy that the plant will be getting at this point. That may slow root development.

well...it looks completely dead at this point...and I always have the opportunity to get another clone whenever I want....no one's gonna get rid of the plant, it's in the hood...so no one will fuck with it...

I'll go get the right spectrum light, and try again in a couple days...
